The answers are Olsen didn't play, the back-up safeties aren't healthy, and the Cheatriots waterboys sprayed that non-stick cooking spray on our WRs gloves before the game

Thought that was a fair article.  Every team goes into a season with question marks in the salary cap era.  The Panthers certainly had questions going into last year  (the media said we had a historically bad WR corp).  That worked out alright...

Still, hard to escape that was a dreadful offensive performance.  However, the positive as Rivera said is that it was truly much more about execution than anything.  The 2010 team executed as well as they could, but they were just overmatched.  In some ways this is more frustrating though.  The 1st string offensive line played well, especially in pass blocking.  Cam was off.  The receivers were off.  The Patriots aren't garbage either.

The defense was a major positive.  The front 7 looked dominant except for 2 throws by Brady.  The TD throw was a thing of beauty (as much as I hate him).  I am glad the Panthers start the season with a couple of lousy QB's for the secondary to gel and get some confidence.  Worley was much better outside of the opening play.  The safety situation is definitely a concern though.

The backup lines looked much better.  I (like Rivera) am disappointed the offense didn't have a better showing.  Even though the regular season offense will look a lot different with Cam as a runner, they have too much talent to go a half without scoring.  Funchess looks like he could become a legitimate #1.  KB is definitely not all the way back to what he was looking like before he got hurt.  Ginn is Ginn.  Outruns everyone last week.  Has 2 crucial drops tonight.

No need to panic because the team lacked execution tonight, not being overmatched.  I guarantee Pats fans feel a lot worse about Garrapolo tonight they we do about our team.

That was a vanilla offense & a basic defense. We didn't game plan for New England. No Olsen, No Philly, Stewart not in long. But I was still disappointed in our WR's. I'll bet Proehl was disappointed too. And there were QB errors, too, that shouldn't have been by all three. It's basic football! Our secondary continues to disappoint also. It's not in their gut yet, too much thinking, bad tackling & bad angles. It will get better.

But, wow, what a difference between Garrapolo & Brady! The Patriots will be lucky to win any of their first 4 games.

I will also say that the refs seemed to miss a lot of calls like blocks in the back, holding, pass interference. Is that how games are going to be called this year? I hope not. Very sloppy. Did they show on TV that the ref "high fived" a Patriot player after he reversed our 2 point conversion? We were all like, WTF???

There wasn't any read option which is a huge part of our game.  Olsen sat out.  Cam must have had something else on his mind.  And we played like Crap.  Kind of like the Atlanta game.

Billicheat played his normal psychological B.S.  How Tommy boy is going to start and the Jimmy starts.  I am sure he partially game planned. (Spying Cam)

This game didn't phase me too much.  It was frustrating to lose that game because I HATE NE but it is what it is.  A B.S. pre-season game.

I do believe Norwood lost any chance of making this squad.   He didn't even look up for the ball... WTF.

Fair article by the Observer.  I did come away from the game with a bunch of questions / issues.

1) Scifres not making this team.  Who will be our punter?

2) Safety depth is needed ASAP.

3) TE depth: We really need to see some of the young guys progress quickly.  With Greg & Ed dealing with some injuries, we need a solid #3.  I think Mucas helped himself and that we could keep 4 TEs. (Simonson & Lucas)

 

But I think we do have some answers now as well

WR battle:  KB doesn't look fully ready, and Philly has not proven his durability.  Makes me think we'll keep 6 WRs.  Assume Bersin & Byrd are #5 & #6

I'd guess RB & CB battles are over:

RBs:  Stew, Fozzy, CAP (& Tolbert)

CBs:  3 Amigos, Bene, McClain

LBs too look set.  I'm assuming Cash has won a spot.  Luke, TD, Shaq, Klein, Mayo & Cash

From where I was sitting, I had trouble seeing who we had in on the Oline Dline rotation, so for now, I can't yet comment on Oline or Dline depth, but both are somewhat less of a concern than they were 2 weeks ago.

What matters is The Denver game and the preparation for it

One thing that concerns me about Newton and that game, as I said in the game chat, is that Von Miller likes to play with Newton's head and Newton lets him do it 

In the Super bowl, a quick check down would have been his friend and I don't know if the offensive game plan doesn't have it or Newton won't do it.  Like in that game,  if the check down is there, he also needs to make that decision quicker and as best I could tell with the tv angles, it lingered last night. If was the same thing...either no safety valve planned for, no move the chains, just bombs away.

 Next, then comes expectations, the home crowd was stoked to see him.  He didn't appear stoked to see them. 

Newton's performance last night was almost like, 'I don't want to do this, I have to do this, let me try and get a xx point lead and I won't have to stay out here.'

Happens I guess when the expectation is  greatness and celebration and the result was much lesser than.
