Questions raised as Carolina Panthers come out flat in loss to Patriots

It's preseason so ultimate who gives a fug.

The only thing that bothered me was Cam and his high balls are back once again. it's been what? 5-6 and the same issue is reoccurring. Last year it looked as if it was finally corrected but looked awful in this game. Hopefully it isn't an issue during the season.

What matters is The Denver game and the preparation for it

One thing that concerns me about Newton and that game, as I said in the game chat, is that Von Miller likes to play with Newton's head and Newton lets him do it

In the Super bowl, a quick check down would have been his friend and I don't know if the offensive game plan doesn't have it or Newton won't do it.  Like in that game,  if the check down is there, he also needs to make that decision quicker and as best I could tell with the tv angles, it lingered last night. If was the same thing...either no safety valve planned for, no move the chains, just bombs away.

Next, then comes expectations, the home crowd was stoked to see him.  He didn't appear stoked to see them.

Newton's performance last night was almost like, 'I don't want to do this, I have to do this, let me try and get a xx point lead and I won't have to stay out here.'

Happens I guess when the expectation is  greatness and celebration and the result was much lesser than.

Totally agree. Instantly in that Denver game we will see what we have or not.

I really hope we don't revert to "chuck the ball up to KB because he is never really covered" offense.

And for the love of all that is holy...Ginn is the only player that is amazing and ass at the same time.

it's like that game you'd play in elementary school where you'd go "okay one trillion dollars but your head is attached to your ass"

"okay you've got this olympic sprinter who can get behind any DB in the league but it's virtually a 50-50 proposition that it's going to be a drop if the ball hits him in the hands"

Fair article by the Observer.  I did come away from the game with a bunch of questions / issues.

1) Scifres not making this team.  Who will be our punter?

2) Safety depth is needed ASAP.

3) TE depth: We really need to see some of the young guys progress quickly.  With Greg & Ed dealing with some injuries, we need a solid #3.  I think Mucas helped himself and that we could keep 4 TEs. (Simonson & Lucas)

But I think we do have some answers now as well

WR battle:  KB doesn't look fully ready, and Philly has not proven his durability.  Makes me think we'll keep 6 WRs.  Assume Bersin & Byrd are #5 & #6

I'd guess RB & CB battles are over:

RBs:  Stew, Fozzy, CAP (& Tolbert)

CBs:  3 Amigos, Bene, McClain

LBs too look set.  I'm assuming Cash has won a spot.  Luke, TD, Shaq, Klein, Mayo & Cash

From where I was sitting, I had trouble seeing who we had in on the Oline Dline rotation, so for now, I can't yet comment on Oline or Dline depth, but both are somewhat less of a concern than they were 2 weeks ago.

Fwiw - during Ron's postgame interview on the broadcast he was talking about the WRs and said something to the effect getting KB, Funchess, Ginn, and Bersin out there together. I feel like that's the our top 4.

I think we bring in another punter after cuts. The radio crew mentioned that Redfern was booming kicks and Ron was quick to note that he out kicked his coverage which is one of the worst mistakes a punter can make.

Demotions: Remmers. Bersin. Fozzy. Dickson. Simonson. Klein. Boston. Bene. Worley.

Promotions: DWilliams. Byrd. Garrett. CAP. Lucas. Mayo. Whitner lol. McClain. Sanchez. Cash. Hawkins.

Get'em Gone: Jacobs. Colin. Foucault. TWilliams.

Get my man McClain back in the starting lineup? Boston scared to lay the wood? Remmers cost us the SB? Klein needs more tackling drills? Worley not ready to start? Bene gets beat deep when jamming at the line? Bene is strictly a nickel? Ben Jacobs value overrated? Colin jones no longer needed? Bersin dissapears when we play good teams? We should respect Lucas as a receiving te?  IDK YOU BE THE JUDGE

We didn't game plan for New England.

I hope you are correct, and the Panthers coaches enjoyed their week long vacation. Coaches clearly did not show up for the week and were terribly out coached in this game. We all know that this is the dress rehearsal game and that the coaches are SUPPOSE to game plan for their week 3 opponents for at least the first half. Game 3 of the preseason is not only the biggest game for the starters, but an even bigger game for the coaches going into the season.

The Patriots ran a single high safety all first half, and were daring Cam and the receivers to beat them. This is the exact same defensive game plan the Broncos employed in the SB. Expect to see it every week until Cam and the receivers prove they can CONSISTENTLY look off safeties and beat the CBs one on one. Teams like the Broncos and Patriots will bank on the Panthers receivers catching 50% or fewer of their targets, and that Cam will be pushed off his point and sail balls with the quick pressure from overwhelming the blocking scheme.

The coaches get an F for the calls they made last night.

Cam was off. It happens.  When he is off in preseason it simply always looks bad because we never run our offense and in real games he counters some of the "being off" with his legs.

only think of major concern for me is we aren't ready IMO at DB for this season

I've played a variation of that game...but your version is hilarious.
