In Tre's defense, when he was at UNC he was part of a Vic Koenning defensive scheme that was horrible and the overall personnel to run said scheme wasn't much better. Judging Tre on his overall defensive ability while playing in said scheme and with said personnel around him shouldn't be held against him in my opinion.

I didn't mean for it to come across that way. I'm just advoacating for what CRA said and the trend that some people have of making guys better than they are simply cuz they are in a Panther uniform. I love Tre and would love nothing more than for him to become an all pro but I'm not gonna call him that till I see it on the field.

Don't need an upgrade, we need good depth. Our top backup safeties have either been hurt most of preseason (Marlowe) or looked bad (Ball*). Safety appeared to be a solid position with good starters with lots of potential and what seemed to be upcoming young guys, that isn't the way it has unfolded.

Ignore Colin Jones, he's there for ST and emergency safety.

Yeah, I said all that an hour ago, now I'm just addressing the idea that anyone signed now would help more than Boston.

Lots of national guys think someone signed (if he's signed) will be a starter with the season two weeks away. I can't...

Fact is we only have two more safeties on the 90 (7) than we kept last year on the 53. Four of them are injured, and Colin Jones is mainly a special teams guy. So, two healthy safeties.

Robinson's surgery is likely a season-ender, I imagine he'll be IRed once we sign a replacement.

Most interesting could be the ripple effect from keeping another safety. Does Marlowe go to IR? Or do they hold onto him but sacrifice a fifth RB or sixth WR?

I get not trusting Boston, I'm guilty of that myself, but it's highly unlikely that anyone available in late August is gonna be a upgrade.

Whitner is avaliable. Safe best is OVERALL he is a better player if healthy.  Now teams have to factor in if they want their youth to have a legit shot at progressing, if the money is worth the level of upgrade, etc.

I just disagree. Hope I'm wrong and he returns to his Pro Bowl form, but I'm not sure he's even starting caliber anymore. Which is fine, we need depth, I just think that if he were still a starting-level safety he'd be signed by now.
