Sign them both... two veterans with a lot of starting experience that we are asking to be backups and can rotate in as needed is a no brainer to me. For a team shooting for the super bowl this year having that kind of depth could make a difference if Coleman or Boston get injured for a few games.

I just don't understand, what some people have against depth at a position

I think some people see guys in Panther uniforms and hype them up into players they aren't....yet.  Is Boston better than him?  I don't see how we can definitely say the answer to that is yes.

If they keep Bene at nickel......2 rookies and Boston making up 75% of the secondary is a weak opening lineup.  Also inexperienced.  Coleman is good but that is a lot to ask of a guy still making his mark to rule that group.

I think we need to move Bene outside to start the season paired with Bradberry.  Have Coleman and a vet S to get the ball rolling.  I mean, Bradberry needs a vet over the top of him IMO to start the season, not Boston.

Boston wouldn't be in front of both those guys on a depth chart.

Who you want help Bradberry over the top?  A savy vet or Boston to start off the season?

He knocked the ball out of Sanders' hands, something that was written about being taught by veteran presence Roman Harper.

How'd the safeties do against Wilson since then? Regular season, Roman Harper got beat by Jimmy Graham like a drum for 140 yards and Coleman gave up the bomb TD. Playoffs Coleman got beat for two deep TDs in "don't get beat deep" situations.. So, by my count Boston (as a rookie) has given up 2 TDs to Wilson and Coleman has given up 3.

Since 2014, 8 games w/ Boston got majority snaps, 7-1 record, 15.7 PPG, 1 team scored >20 points  (26 tackles, 3 INTs, 1 sack)

This is exactly why I don't get some of the Boston comments. I agree that he's not a world-beater (at least not yet) and might only end up a serviceable safety, but he's hardly "not shown anything on the field."

As a Tar Heel fan, I love Tre but realistically I'm not completely sold on him back there. Do I think he's gonna be solid, yes, but if there's a better option that puts us in the best position to win then by all means Tre should sit. Some people act like he's the second coming of Ed Reed. I watched him at Carolina so I'll humble my expectations till the bullets start flying for real

I'm with you on this too. Boston has earned the right to be a starter with how he's produced when given the snaps the past couple of seasons. That being said, Would love Whitner to come in as a depth piece.

We may not rotate safeties like we do with the lineman, but just because you're a depth guy as a safety doesn't mean you won't play. If we signed Whitner, he'd definitely see snaps without starting.

yeah, you also have to look at how the secondary is composed.  I mean, I would feel better w/ Boston if we had Norman.  But Bradberry is going to need some legit help to start the season ( rookies need vets helping them understand exactly what is going on).   Boston ain't that guy yet and we haven't even gotten to talking about actual play of his position.  Half our battle early will be our DBs just doing and being what and where they are suppose to ....then we can worry about how well they do the job.

In Tre's defense, when he was at UNC he was part of a Vic Koenning defensive scheme that was horrible and the overall personnel to run said scheme wasn't much better. Judging Tre on his overall defensive ability while playing in said scheme and with said personnel around him shouldn't be held against him in my opinion.

Exactly when I raise questions people act like im rooting for our guys to fail which simply isn't the case. Like I tell everyone I think we are gonna be really successful this year but I've humbled my expectations ecspecially if we role out our current secondary week one. Bene needs to be outside bottom line, people can say what they want about the coaches knowing what they are doing and poo but you can't convnce me other wise.
