Johnsonville, S.C. (WPDE) Carolina Panthers equipment manager Barry McElhannon donated a Cam Newton jersey to the family of Johnsonville football player Sammy Black, Jr. to be auctioned at a benefit to help the family after a fire destroyed their home last week, according to Johnsonville Football Coach Lewis Lineberger.

Lineberger said they’re working to schedule a benefit to help the family.

Fire destroyed the home last Tuesday on Fairview Circle in Johnsonville.

When crews got to the home, flames were coming through the roof, according to officials with Johnsonville Rescue.

Officials said there was little firefighters could do to save the home.

Lineberger said McElhannon once coached with him and he wanted to do something to help the family.

Black’s mother said she’s overwhelmed with the community’s support. She said she’s so thankful for those who have donated so much to help her family through this difficult time.

You can send donations to help the Black family to Johnsonville High School at 237 South Georgetown Rd. Highway, Johnsonville SC 29555.
