We couldn't afford Jonathan Stewart

bullshit

Keep plugging in the individual performances as justification the defensive players we picked in our drafts were worth all the investment, while conveniently ignoring the fact that even though we spent more money and time on the defense than a white collar office worker in a strip club, the defense has sucked since 2006 and, 2 games into the regular season is ranked 15th in total yards and 30th in total points allowed.

30th in points allowed? (My favorite stat)

That sucks.

76% of the 1st round QB's we had a shot at in the Fox era were busts and are either backups or out of the league.

Seventy six. Percent.

100 % of the players of the players taken in the first round in the Fox era are starters or significant subs (Williams and Stewart split carries about 60-40) and are still on the team and would be starters on the overwhelming majority of NFL teams.

One hundred. Per cent.

yes

keep ignoring 4 of those picks contribute to a defense that is absolutely atrocious. That defense which, hasn't put forth an impressive game since Denver last year.

Meanwhile, Philly had like two first round draft picks starting on defense last year and finished top 5.

Please if you even took a minute to pry your head out of Fox's ass and look at all the investment we made in the defense vs. how badly it's ranked and compare it relative to other teams, you'd change your tune.

It's all a waste if they don't play well as a unit. And they haven't. For at least 3 seasons.

QBs selected in the 1st round after the Panthers pick since 2002:

2008

Joe Flacco

2007

No QB taken in 1st round after Panthers pick

2006

No QB taken in 1st round after Panthers pick

2005

Aaron Rodgers

Jason Campbell

2004

No QB taken in 1st round after Panthers pick

2003

Kyle Boller

Rex Grossman

2002

Joey Harrington

Patrick Ramsey

3 of the 7 there are starters aren't they?

I wanted us to trade up two spots and take Clady (Gross hadn't proven himself to be a pro-bowl LT at that point) and then take Forte in the 2nd.

I also wanted Sean Smith over Sherrod Martin and trading our 3rd rounder away for a 2010 2nd round pick (lessen the blow of not having a 1st) instead of taking Irvin.

But what the hell do I know.

As far as the defense, the 1st round picks we've used on D have worked out really well, it's partly due to the lack of production from the rest of our players. But mainly I think it has to due with the fact that our scheme relies heavily on getting pressure with our front 4 and the Dline is the weakest part of the D. We have Peppers and a bunch of scrubs (at least that's how the rest of them are playing at this point).

He's probably counting Quinn since he was available before we traded down, but Quinn's a starter so that doesn't help his case.

Jason Campbell

Aaron Rodgers

Joe Flacco

Brady Quinn

vs.

Kyle Boller

Patrick Ramsey

Rex Grossman

Joey Harrington

Oh yeah those 4 constitute 76% now don't they?

If we wanted Campbell we could have traded a 2nd rounder for him in the offseason, so you can probably take him out of the "should have used a 1st rounder on this guy" category.

I really wouldn't mind having Rodgers, Flacco or even Quinn to some degree. We'd actually have to be at least somewhat effective at developing QB talent though.

I guess it's possible that we suddenly become amazing effective at developing QBs. It's also possible that Jessica Simpson shows up naked at my doorstep later tonight, but I'm not really counting on either.

I'm countin QB's available, not just QB's taken.

Buuuut, your list actually looks pretty bad by itself. 50% straight busts, only 25% sure success rate (the jury's still very much out on Quinn and Campbell).

So a 25% chance of success isn't risky then?

still waiting for your excuse on why the defense sucks despite the production on our first round picks

Because they are not being used correctly?

Because if you don't secure and pressure from the interior of the line, the defense we run will suffer immensely?

What's your secondary point?

Hell, besides bitching what is your original point?

I think we have to take our medicine and trade either Stewart or Williams for a First Round pick next year(are they worth that?).

Reason being we have too many big needs elsewhere(Defensive Line, QB, Secondary) to have this luxury. Stew and Williams together won't win us games if the Defense sucks and we have a below average QB.

Goodson has alot of potential, I say pick either WIlliams or Stewart, trade the other and groom Goodson to be the #2 and then find a serviceable #3 RB.

Plus, after their Rookie contracts are up, can we afford to keep both of them anyway??? With the Cap, thats a ton of money spent on one position if you figure they both have huge paydays coming up.
