Josh Norman on Panthers Front Office - "Dictatorship"

Maybe it's the Smitty homer in me. But I think he could still be on this squad today if GMan handled it better. Especially with what Smith meant to the team and fan base. He played almost a decade through up and down Panther teams. He was as much a teammate as a he could be.

But I do believe he's been sour ever since.

You could be right. I'm not Smitty-salty. I still love the man. My formative Panther memories as a 4th grader were X-clown, the Super Bowl, and his scrappy attitude. Smitty kept me tuned in to Panther football during the 1-15 2010 season. At the end though, there were reports he was speaking out against the coaches and wasn't willing to move inside full-time. Sounded like he was holding Cam back and refusing to let him take leadership of the team. If true, then any one of those reasons would have been reason enough for both he and the Panthers to move on.

And let's be real: How exactly would the team benefit from keeping other guys from getting endorsements anyway?

That part of the story is kind of ridiculous.

The NFL restricts the types of endorsements a player can make (few products are barred), but I've never heard of companies having to ask permission of a player's team before a contact can be made. I think Norman has gone off the deep end.

This is true. Still... my point to CRA remains, Smithy, God love him, wasn't a team player. Neither was Josh. Some teams are okay with marquee players being alittle me-first. There's no room for that in Carolina. That's why Josh and Smithy were let go. And I wouldn't have it any other way

I agree with you.  My point was merely pointing out I think Norman is full of poo.

I do think there is something to that. As much as we all want Smitty back you can't deny that Cam has seamlessly and smoothly taken control of the team. Considering the personalities we are dealing with, there is probably blame to go around.

Smith definitely refocused his game when he went to Baltimore though.

I just wish we could have seen him pair with KB.

Plus winning a super bowl with Smitty on the team is essentially an all star roster. Probably the most would be nfl legends in the modern era on one team.

But Cam and Luke are also legitimately the best at their position in the NFL. They make the wheels turn on both sides of the ball. Josh for all his great qualities was still in a system that cushioned him.

I've been in his corner all off season. But to call the front office a dictatorship when the team simply wanted him to stop being a dumbass racking up penalties is a low blow.

Cam and Luke are the best at their positions....the point i was making was outside of them anybody else who rises to that status on this team and wants to be treated as such is a young player may not have a future here. Hence why i said they may end up playing for another team.

It's easy to talk like this when you're coming off a successful season, and you're record is 0-0.

When things start getting tough, Josh is going to find out really quickly how much of a different animal it is altogether playing for a team like Washington when there are high, and unrealistic expectations considering the he will be expected to lift the other players around him instead of vice versa.

He Kinda has a point, you don't see many commercials, endorsements, from anybody but Cam and Luke.

Isn't it his agent's job to seek out endorsement deals?

Josh needs to get over it.  He was the one who did not sign his franchise tag. The ball was in his court and he blew it. Time to man up Josh. You got what you wanted.

Thomas Davis, Greg Olsen and others have been part of commercials locally and nationally.

Cam and Luke (primarily Cam) dominate the endorsements because they're among the few Panthers that are nationally recognizable.

And let's be real: How exactly would the team benefit from keeping other guys from getting endorsements anyway?

Actually its not, you are comparing to young players with 5 years tops experience to vets well in there 30s and have already been paid in the league. Olsen and TD are not gonna dominate endorsements because they are on or close to the back end of their careers not to mention as good as they are not considered nationally the best a respective positions (TD is just now getting spot light) . They are not fresh young faces with low mileage and they also are not gonna demand huge contracts because they have already made significant money. Why would they? It is all about chasing a ring at this point in their careers.

Norman and Short are the comparison for the post i was making rather than TD and Olsen.

Well.......apparently now he can, he said the Panthers was holding him back. Its very clear he has been engaged in a lot more activities since he left and the season hasnt even started so there is evidence to back up what he is saying. Panthers wanted him to keep quiet and focus on football and thats what he did. Since he is gone he can build his brand and speak out more.
