Philly did you knock brak down once and take his lunch money or something?

He sure has a hard on for you.

I noticed that too... lol

I think it's awesome PhillyB is following his dreams.  Most people can't say that.

First off and most importantly, much respect.  I am genuinely impressed and in awe of your commitment to your project and wish you nothing but success.

That said you really should put the "the film Hollywood doesn't want to make" shitck on the self.

Hollywood has got to be one of the most mercenary and bottom line driven machines out there.  A machine that doesn't care one whit about the message or the politics of a film as long as it can cover production costs and make a profit.

My .02 would be to pimp your project on the strength of the script and the cast, on the uniqueness of its perspective, and leave the poor mouthing to lesser projects.  Trotting out the underdog filmmaker act is beneath you.

Im rooting for you brother.  Best of luck and I expect to see this film in a theater in the not too distant future.

I'd go with Inimicus' take as well. Also, I thought Platoon illustrated how fugged the Black Man or Poor man was fugged quite well.

Don't step on a land mine...  There are millions undiscovered land mines in Cambodian woods.  Make sure to hire a guide.

yeah this is actually my absolute biggest concern at this stage. it's also got me considering shooting all my village/fringe jungle scenes in cambodia and shifting to thailand for the jungle scenes if the budget comes through. but either way any part of cambo anywhere near the lao or vietnamese border is just not going to happen.

to be honest the war hollywood refuses to make is a double-edged sword in many ways. i am appealing to two demographics here: people invested in the cultural legacy of america in vietnam, and people interested in reanalyzing social histories and understanding poignant social forces at play. in other words, i want to hit the good ol' boys who complain that america wasn't allowed to win the war by showing how search and destroy missions tied GIs hands behind their back tactically, and i want to hit the activist demographic by being the first movie to do a decent job of demonstrating the poo hand black GIs were dealt at the time (dead presidents comes the closest but even with two of them the hughes brothers were in way over their heads.)

both of these demographics complain about how hollywood portrays the war, for much different reasons. i'm hoping to become the first film to really get both of these aspects right. so as you said i'm going for broke on the story and i've invested enormous time and energy into developing a cast with talent and clear chemistry.

fingers crossed!

can't do fortunate son though. not only is it anachronistic for a film set in april '68 but it's also an eye-rolling trope for helicopter insert scenes. i love it and i hear it whenever i envision the scene but i just can't do it

The good news is your free to depart from what were essentially recruiting movies of the mid to late 20th century and do what you please.

everyone will be properly grizzled and filthy come production time :) this is more of a chance to just get everybody on film and give audiences an idea of what we're gonna be creating.

Those PAGST style helmets weren't around until the 1980s.
