So I'm officially directing and producing a feature-length Vietnam War film

what a motherfuger of a couple of weeks, my god.

the cambodia film commission dropped the ball. they didn't file our permits to use the weapons props with the ministry of the interior. i bribed the cinema department to expedite them, bribed customs to speed the process and get the paperwork started... all to no avail.

the in the middle of trying to figure out how to get ready for production in three fuging days i get a call from one of my actors who informs me all 7 of the lead and supporting actors are being denied their flights. turns out china's 72 hour visa-free transit policy is arbitrarily knocked down to 24 hours if you're transiting more than one airport (which nobody makes clear) so when they didn't have chinese visas they weren't allowed to board the plane. so i had to buy seven new international tickets two damn days later. and then two of those got arbitrarily canceled. couldn't rebook the same flights, 24 hour purchase rule flying internationally. had to buy a day after. buy more hotels in their san fran layover.

utter bullshit. everything that could go wrong went wrong.

but we struck gold. i bribed a cambodian general to let us film at an army base 40km outside of phnom penh. i gave him cash and cigars and he arranged for me to have full run of the base, which is thousands of acres of prime southeast asian landscape, all unspoiled by power lines, road traffic, all that. a controlled environment. they let us use their vietnam-era surplus weapons, and even though we've had to make some changes for continuity due to certain missing items (such as the right grenades) we've gone from disaster to massive success. we just wrapped day three of production, we're rolling ass kicking footage, and we are realizing this space was the best possible location for this film.

also i shaved my beard for the first time in six years to play an extra.

Poor neighbors

I would never fly this thing in my neighborhood.  Here's an example of what you can do with it.  I'm going to take it to the Smokey mountains as soon as I get some good weather a make a few aerial videos.

no time, i'm already wearing multiple hats. as writer, producer, director, script supervisor, and production coordinator i'm stretched too thin to do anything besides collapse into bad for three hours of sleep at the end of every day and do it all over again. i didn't have the budget for a behind the scenes guy.

getting some outstanding work in though. the huddle's own @OneBadCat is part of the cast and delivered a great performance in a very demanding role. big ups man, it was fun to have you around on set for a couple days.
