Devin Funchess, his agents, and next year...

Alright ladies and gents, training camp is done, and although he didn't receive camp MVP honors, Funch is leading the pack of offensive weapons so far.  With his work ethic and humble personality, this kid is going to be a force.

But I also have my concerns.  Talent is a double-edged sword.  If Funchess proves to be what were are expecting in his highly-anticipated sophomore season, then we have two WR1s on the roster from a money allocation POV.  What does Getts do?  What would you want Getts to do?  We have an option on KB for the 2018-2019 season, and if we exercise, then that puts both players hitting UFA status in 2019-2020.  Not good.  Moreover, Funch is with CAA, known to be the fat, cranky red-headed kid stealing your kid's toys from his sandbox.  How do they respond if Funch produces and Getts is his typical hard-nosed self re: negotiations?

Many questions can't be answered, and many unknown variables are sure to generate questions I can't think of.  This is just an exercise in curiosity to me.  Makes for an interesting pre-season discussion, anyway.

Honestly, it's just too early to tell.  We have both of our guys under contract for 2 more full seasons.

However, I would assume that much of the money that we will need to sign them both will come from the Stewart/Olsen spot.  Stew after this year, and I would love to get 3 more seasons out of Greg, but the NFL typically isn't that nice to mid 30's players.

We will also get cheaper at C, but get much more expensive at DT, and OL.

Gettleman will pay them what they're worth TO US when they're contracts are up. Nothing more.

Norman was not worth 17 million per year to us in our defensive scheme. No corner is.

Luke is worth paying the highest amount of money at his position for us so he is.

It is quite possible that one or both of our WRs will play better than what we can offer them, but I bet we hold onto at least one of them moving forward.

Benjamin is better now but Funchess has the higher ceiling in my opinion.
