DGB Traded to the Igles

For those who clamored to draft this guy last year, the Titans have already given up on him and traded for what is the Eagles equivalent to Byron Bell.

DGB had apparently fallen down the depth chart and was being supplanted by a 5th round rookie.

Also, I'm not sure if we're still in offseason mode or not, but mods please feel free to move it to NFL discussion if it's that time of year again.

wow really

that guy was gonna be the next randy moss according to several people on this site

It's pretty surprising tho because last thing I remember is him being pretty promising last year and him getting back into football shape so he must not be getting what those coaches are dishing out.

On a side note Derrick Henry looks like a stud for them. He's probably gonna destroy our second and third string Saturday.

Most Titan fans are upset which they should be. We all know the leaps Funchess has made but DGB did have a comparable season stats wise.

The titan front office had some concerns and him coming into camp out of shape solidified those concerns, along with him being out of position numerous times last season.

IMO the titans moved on to quickly but only time will tell. But the Eagles did get him for a career backup with 15 starts in 4 years

I would bet DGB played many more snaps than Funch, and probably a fair amount of production in garbage time.

Apparently he has been giving no effort in camp and the coaches didn't want him there.

Rishard Matthews, Andre Johnson, Tajae Sharpe, Kendall Wright, and Justin Hunter were all ahead of him on the depth chart.  Not to mention Tre McBride sounds like he's won people over as well.

Probably off the field reasons. He showed promise on the field, but he was drafted with plenty of off field concerns and I'm sure the front office probably had him on a pretty short leash.

Read the Titans board. He came into camp overweight, and has problems running their route tree. Lots of pissed off fans because the guy is so physically talented and think they cut bait wayyy too early for a shitty OL player.

also think they got a new GM over there who apparently is cut throat and are trying to build their lockerroom up. Honestly they are trying to mirror us.

Did the Titans really need him? I doubt it.

Check out their receiver depth chart. It's nothing to write home about.

Back when people were saying our receiving corps was one of the worst in the league, the Titans were often neck and neck.

That's the problem. According training camp reports he didn't make the leap that funchess made. Sharpe out played him. This kind of remind me or the Trent Richardson trade.

I liked Kendall Wright, but it looks like he's fallen out of flavor too.

    • The art of playing QB is to throw the ball hard enough to get there and as soft/catchable as possible for the receiver. NFL history is littered with insanely strong-armed passers that coaches were hoping they could teach to be accurate and throw a catchable ball.  Almost all ended in failure.  Turns out it's a lot harder to teach a QB to be accurate than to have the proper technique to get enough zip on the ball to make the pass. The NFL isn't Madden. Very, very few games have a lot of opportunities for throwing the ball 40+ yards in the air unless there is a coverage bust. BY9 has been the least accurate throwing deep (vs short or intermediate), but most of his misses have been long, not short.   I would love for an actual example where Bryce couldnt get the ball there.  There are quite a few examples where BY9s mechanics were bad and the ball lacked zip bc of that. Young needs to stick to good footwork to generate the power needed for some throws. That certainly doesnt mean he cant do it, but like someone like Brees, he needs to throw the ball in rhythm and with good footwork. Young doesn't have an arm that pops like a Josh Allen or Cam, but to act like he can't put zip on the ball is insane and objectively just wrong. I'm personally pumped as hell to see BY9 develop chemistry, especially with someone like JT Sanders he can trust on jump balls. Elite QBs have to make throws from the pocket in synch with the play design, but sometimes the play breaks down and you need a guy you can trust to get a jump ball one-on-one to keep the chains moving and the defense honest. As mentioned, Delhomme somewhat made a living here throwing YOLO balls up to Smitty. I'm personally excited to see what BY9 can do the rest of the season along with the defense hopefully doing somewhat better. Given the entire body of work so far, I don't see a scenario where BY9 should be anointed the starter next season (and we need to bring in legit competition), but Young has shown enough since he came back from his benching to play the rest of the season and be back to compete for the starting job next season IMHO. I'm open to any reasonable debate about that fact.  Just like everyone else here, I want to see the Panthers win first & foremost. With or without BY9. Sunday was the first game (maybe GB last year), where Young looked like a guy worthy of the #1 pick.  I think that is objectively true, even as someone who has been more pro-Young than a lot of this board. There's a long ways to go before even committing to him as the long-term QB, but these last few weeks have shown the first real signs of promise. That should be encouraging to everyone who cares about this team.
    • The reasonable part I think will be tough. IMO, I don't really think he is going to want to resign with us. He seems to be an "emotions on his sleeve" guy that really hates losing. That's not really going to be changing much before his contract will be up. If we want to keep him around it will have to be by tagging or overpaying, IMO.
    • Yeah, taking shots at him after the best game of his career by a very substantial margin is just cringy. If you just hate the MFer just hate him and be honest about it. Don't cover it in some horseshit hot takes and weak insults.
