it was a naive comment to make clearly we are not past racism in this country and a lot of his criticism is rooted in racism..honestly don't know how anyone could debate that at this point.

Think he may have tried to place to play if safe with comment and ended up causing even more of controversy by doing so

Obviously, obviously, we aren't "beyond that" ... racism clearly still exists to a large degree, and the notion that it doesn't is a fallacy

But because Cam is black, isnt why he's hated, Tom Brady is just as hated if not more and he's white ..

What was Cam going to say ? Yeah, they hate me cause I'm black ? That'd go over well

Tom Brady is a cheater in this league. How tf do you compare the two?

I love you Cam, but I disagree. Some fans are racist towards him because he's black. Also, we are not beyond racism as a nation.

He has completely backtracked from his previous statements on this matter. I wonder who got in his head to make him do so.

Is racism gone? No it happens all the time and occurs with all races and by both sides. The issue is whether you keep defining the situation by race or keep using race as an excuse positively or negatively. The only way to get beyond is to stop seeing everything in racism terms and stop blaming each other by playing the race card constantly.

This is hard for me because I don't see how anyone can criticize Cam in terms of his play.  He is on his way to being the best QB in the league, if not already that.  Though Cam shouldn't have said the nation is beyond racism.  That's a minefield of a quote because we know it's not true, even though we want it to be.

Reading between the lines: this sounds a lot like you're saying "reverse racism" is a thing, The fabled "race-card"  people think is some kind of get of jail free card for minorities and you're "bringing race into it" by actually acknowledging that racism is prevalent  issue in this country

What that mostly boils down to: "Talking race makes me uncomfortable lets stop talking about it and just say we're all equal"

Everyone recognizes racism is still here. What he said is he doesn't want to make it a racist conversation or define himself as simply a black quarterback. He didn't say that people wouldn't still define him as such simply he didn't think that was the way he wanted to be and that as far as he was concerned we were beyond that. The only way to move forward is to do like him and move beyond it and see the progress instead of constantly looking for where it still exists as if that will change anything.

He's getting blasted for his comments on the hip hop forum I'm apart of.

Maybe in his million dollar world were past racism, but in my world, and the lives of millions of others, it's still very much alive.

Racism exists on both sides and there is no such thing as reverse racism as if it goes one direction. Racism goes both ways and exists between all of the races in the US who share the same resources.

The truth is we are all created equal. That is never the question. The question has always been do we have equal access to resources and are we all treated equally. Whether we were created as equals is really not a debate anymore.

oh lawdy. cam was being politically correct and avoiding a media poostorm. of course there's racism and of course he knows it. he has a B.A. in sociology for fugs sake, he knows like the rest of us that it's only the blithering few that actually shamelessly proclaim their dislike for cam due to his race.

no, racist statements are much better disguised in today's world. they are usually coded and subconscious, things like: "i'm not a racist, i just don't like the way he talks." (cam speaks african-american english)

at the end of the day, cam has an enormous amount of power. i think he's trying to use it to unite the country, which is noble. i hope he continues to use his power to influence change for those who measurably feel the effects of institutionalized racism in this country.
