Bersin vs Byrd (Poll)

Maybe its just me but I wasn't all that impressed with Byrd last night.  He had some good returns which is a plus but if he is going to be active each week just to return kicks I think its a waste, esp with ginn returning punts and fozzy returning kicks.  His long reception was great (more of a one handed bobble, grab, luck of the draw type thing as opposed to beating someone or making a great catch in coverage) but I never really saw him separating from defensive backs.  

And considering I'm the biggest Bersin=JAG guy, I have to say that putting Bersin ahead of anybody means they don't really bring a lot to the table.  At the very least Bersin can make that third down grab.  In the NFL, give me the guy that runs great routes and makes catches rather than a straight line speed guy who hasn't shown a whole lot.

Granted, I haven't been at practices so I can only base this opinion on what I saw.  Feel free to disagree but sometimes its good to have some perspective with these guys.  I don't think Wegher is anything more than PS fodder but a lot of people disagree.   I drastically limit my expectations until I see something that makes me think they can run with the big boys.

Who am I playing, what part of the season, who are my no. 1-4 WR's ahead of Byrd/BB?

Answer those, and I can give you a good reply.

This is kind of at odds with what Cam said. I don't think he sees Byrd as just a straight line speed guy.

Maybe so, he did flash some agility on some of the returns.  Just need to see more.  There's obviously something to this guy because they seem to be giving him every opportunity to succeed, I just haven't seen it personally yet.

I think Byrd would be more in competition with Hill but he's winning that so far hands down. I think we should find a way to keep both. Bersin in effect is a good replacement for cotchery. Byrds upside is huge and gives us a home run threat. I trust the coaches make the right decision if things continue to play out as they have been.

I just want to see what Byrd can do with the big boys. Let him run a little with KB and Funch.

I didn't catch all of our game and what both players did, but think about it this way.  How often would Bersin play vs. Byrd?

Byrd has the chance to make a huge impact on the return game every game.

Bersin, has to beat out a few guys to see the field.  

As far as potential impact goes, it's Byrd in a landslide.  As for proven player, it's Bersin.  I have to side with Byrd for true value... we haven't had a dynamic return guy, and game breaker type player in a while other than what Ginn brings.  Let's see what the kid can do.

Man, I've always been of the belief that when it comes to KR/PR, either you've got it or you don't. Byrd seems to have it, and for that alone, I'd keep him over Bersin. 

Now, I hope we keep 6 WR's so both can stay. It would suck to lose a reliable target like Bersin

Bersin is dependable. Byrd is dangerous. Bersin will get you some 1st downs. Byrd will get you some TD's.

We know, for a fact, that Bersin will get you 1st downs. We are only assuming Byrd will get you some TDs.

I'm not slighting Byrd, but Bersin knows the system, has proven himself in real games, and adds both locker room presence and experience.

 

I don't know.  In the next 3 games if Byrd continues to be an explosive weapon on special teams....then Byrd needs the spot.    Because until you get injuries your 5th WR is simply a special teamer and garbage time player.

Before he played a game we only assumed that KB would get some TD's too. Were we worried that he wouldn't? Don't think so. I assume you have less faith in Byrd because he's from UDFAland? I've seen him catch passes. I've seen him run with the ball. Personally I have faith that with enough touches, he'll break some big runs for TD's. And I'm saying that as a Bersin fan. I hope he can stay a Panther, but Byrd has big play potential.

Yes, big play potential, is very intriguing and I would hate to loose a good player without knowing for sure.  I guess I'm more of a bird in the hand type of guy.

Which ever, at least its nice to have too much talent.  I wish we could have these discussions about our offensive line.
