Mike Tolbert

Was talking to a friend this morning about Mike Tolbert's lack of tangible stats (rushing yards, TD's, etc). Was trying to get across how much his intangibles (blocking and being a decoy) mean to this offense, especially at the goal line.

Then, I came across this video. It's not Tolbert's touchdowns; it's all of Cam's rushing TD's. Keep your eyes on 35. If you're not from 6 to midnight for this season by the end, we'll give you your money back. Guaranteed (not a guarantee).

I love Tolbert, but he's a mediocre blocker, at best.  A majority of his blocking in that video was garbage.  I do agree with him being a good decoy though.  You have to account for him in those short yardage situations, and it's part of what makes our offense so good near the goal line.  There's just too many people to account for.

Your friend uses the same rationale for Tolbert that the media does for Cam.  Criticize him for plays he doesn't make, when in reality it's his skill set that moves the entire offense.  Tolbert, albeit in a smaller universe, provides that same flexibility.  Just tell your friend that defenses have honed in on stopping Tolbert at the expense of the rest of our offense.

Okay. I'm tired of people saying that Tolbert is mediocre or overrated. In 2014, we only lost 1 game that he played in during the regular season. Of the games he didn't play in, we only won one game.

What more do you need?

the panthers won every game newton missed that season.

therefore, newton must be overrated.

Newton misses two games....against the Buccaneers. That isn't an apples to apples comparison.

Maybe try inserting a Mike Tolbert stat to disprove me?

he is overrated.

We aren't discussing Newton. Have you been drinking or are you attempting to troll a post that actually made an accurate point?

To your argument: Cam Newton scored 50 TD's and played in 17 wins last season when including the Post Season. Therefore, he is not overrated.

The past two seasons, we are 25-4 with Mike Tolbert starting. Therefore, he is underrated.

mike tolbert has been a starter in only 10 of those games.

and yes, i'm trolling you...simply because win/loss record is a retarded way of measuring wether someone is over/underrated.

With a large enough sample size you can argue there is cause and effect. I'm not really in the mood to research and find out the chance probability because of all the variables.

Knowing what I know about 2014, we played better as a whole when Tolbert was in the game. His worth to the team can't be measured in statistics alone as everyone is aware that he is a leader and people on the team look to him.
