Yeah, I know about CAP's college stats.  He feasted at Auburn for sure.  Like I said, I'm no scout, but I just really like Wegher a lot for some reason.  Not necessarily because he did really well last year in preseason games, but how he ran when he was out there, and the way he carried himself on the field.  I think he can be a really good running back in the NFL, but also pay attention to him when he's out there.  He's like some kind of fuging animal when he has the ball.  It's that switch that people always talk about, and he just looks like a killer.  We don't have much of that on the offensive side of the ball.

I like Wegher too and my preference would be to have Stewart be the bell cow one more time this year and start giving CAP and Wegher their shots at getting on the field as well as at "3rd down back".  I have absolutely nothing against Fozzy outside of the fact that I think that he is an "ok" NFL player at best and the two young backs have a so much higher potential.  Fozzy isn't going to give us any more "potential" than he already has.

Next year's class is loaded and I think we'll take a RB, heck maybe even a 1st rounder (DG has had good #1 RBs his entire career - Thurman Thomas, Terrell Davis, Tiki Barber, Ron Dayne, Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, DeAngelo and Stewart).

That said, Wegher and CAP have shown a lot more IMHO than Fozzy from what I have seen. I can't say I have watched all the pass protection drills and every run/reception, but when you watch practice you tend to "notice" those guys who flash.

Wegher hasn't shown anything when it comes to real games and the last time we saw CAP he was fumbling handoffs.

Fozzy was our most affective runner against the Broncos and did well vs Atlanta. And he's really the only homerun threat we have coming out of the backfield.

I can't disagree with this.  Fozzy has made a couple of really nice plays here, but I don't think there's any detriment to the team if he's gone.  I think Wegher can do anything Fozzy can... maybe better.

Not sure what you're talking about.  Wegher showed out BIG TIME in preseason games last year with 2 or 3 TDs.

He didn't have a chance to show anything in regular season games.  He wasn't active for any game except week 17 against TB when he only got 1 or 2 ST reps.

anyone know whats going on with that bruiser we picked up at fb, cant remember his name and havent heard much about him.

Devon "Rockhead" Johnson?   He's not been playing.  Dealing with back injuries / tightness. (They sent him to specialist to check it out.)  Can't imagine he'll make the roster.  Maybe PS or IR??

Would be really good to have CAP and Wegher, next year, when Stew is gone.

There's apparently a really good RB draft class next year, so maybe Ron plans to pick between Wegher and CAP now in hopes of picking up another franchise RB next season. Regardless, I hope which ever he chooses gets more touches this season than CAP did last.

I'm a big Rivera fan, but what's the point of a coach saying publicly that a backup player is safe even before the first preseason game? It seems counterproductive to the competitive mindset you want all your players to have.

Unless he's trying to light a fire under the collective a$$es of his sophomore RB's. Nothing motivates harder than a straight up head-to-head battle for a spot; winner gets a spot, loser is PS.

Saying who's 2nd & 3rd string doesn't equal saying we will carry only 4 in the RB/FB group. Sounds like motivation for CAP and Wegher to keep pushing Fozzy for playing time, considering Fozzy is a free agent after this season.

As far as losing a RB spot for another TE, CB, DT, or other position, people are forgetting our philosophy. Run the Ball. Stop the Run. Rush the Passer. In that order. Yes, it's great that Benji's back, and the young TEs have potential, but our success last year came from running the football. We're not going to be passing the ball 700 times this year, and I think the Huddle has lost sight of that. We will keep running the ball 50% of the plays, and I believe the coaches will keep enough RBs to stay that way if 1 or 2 get injured, which Stewie has a history of

Real game not preseason, Todman had a good preseason also.

And he was ineffective against the Giants and Arizona. Also, he only had 4 carries against Denver. I'd say his poor pass blocking led more than made up for his 1 good run.

CAP has 4 games where he had 5 or more carries (5, 8, 14 and 14) and in those games, his longs are 11, 15, 26 and 31. I know Whittaker has that track speed, but in 93 career carries, he's got a career long run of 17. His speed hasn't seemed to translate into actual long runs.

Again, going from practices, the other two have looked more effective running the ball.

CAP also fumbles which negates from the little stats he has. Your not taking into account Whittaker pass catch which is what he's known for, a scat back. He's also our best kick returner.

Where are all these fumbles that some Huddlers keep referring to?

Show me some stats, and I'll believe it.

This is the Huddle. We are ground zero in Panthers fandom. That fabrication about CAP needs to end.
