The Panthers need to play the cards they are dealt defensively.

So you keep Pep. You lose Kemo and you have a rookie still learning.

So why would you keep using the cover 2 with DB's that are avg at best all the while knowing that to be effecitve in that scheme you MUST pressure the qb? And that is what's NOT happening.

Why not zone blitzes? Send in Beason or Thomas Davis from time to time in a zone blitz package to cause a different type of disruption?

Once the other team's offense has to adjust that can then free up Pep to get to the QB more.

Teams are going to make a living dropping it underneath and with poor tackling to add to that it's easy money.

Smart coaching knows how to maximize it's talent or adapt to what is the talent you have.

I haven't really noticed Everette Brown on the field much. Did he not have 3 sacks and a FF in preseason? Granted that was likely against 2nd stringers, but Peppers was invisible yesterday, you'd think we give the guy a few shots considering we couldn't even get close enough to Ryan to hit him with a 10 ft pole.

they were blitzing. it wasn't working.

I saw that as well.....When we blitz, we get stonewalled. Then they blitz, we get stuffed. In case you haven't heard, I read where the Colts blitzed fewer than any other teams in the NFL under Meeks. I also read where the Colts blitzed more in their first game last week than they did all of last year. I'll try to find the link if I have a chance.

My point is...I don't have a lot of faith in our ability to get creative in designing blitz packages. Have you ever thought this? One of the reasons our o-line isn't very good at blitz pick up is because our defense isn't very good at it during practice and when we face a real blitzing team - they eat our lunch.

here is one link..... http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/isn-colts-blizting-091409,0,2861693.story?track=rss-topicgallery

INDIANAPOLIS, IND - Gary Brackett figures he blitzed four times in Sunday's season-opening victory -- more than he can remember having in any game during his seven-year NFL career.

Yes, these are the changes the Colts promised when bringing in new defensive coordinator Larry Coyer, and frankly, Brackett likes it.

"I'd say we blitzed upward of 10 times Sunday, and that's about 10 more times than we've done in the past," Brackett joked. "Last year, that wasn't really our philosophy. We had some blitzes, but they were mostly run blitzes."

    • It absolutely is on him for doing it and I'd wager he used a good bit of that psychology major to help him through interviews because he could read people better than most. The Panthers should have recognized it for what it was, hell, we all did, but you can't absolve him just because everyone else does it.    38 Million guaranteed.
    • No Ikem vs the best pass rushing team in the NFL?  With no pocket for Bryce to step in to because of arguably the best interior DL in the NFL, Dexter Lawrence? Giants win comfortably IMO.  Look at how hype the Panthers were to win last week.  That was enough for them. The Panthers have struggled against mobile QBs this year too.  Guys who can extend the play.  Bo Nix, Marcus Mariota, Caleb Williams.  Panthers have struggled against all QBs this year to be honest, but those guys in particular did the best statistically.  Expect a big game from Danny Dimes, Nabers, and Tyrone.
    • And where did anyone say they were? I’m saying that’s where the comp comes from. I agree they are different. No two QBs are the same even that Nebraska QB is different than Mahomes no matter how hard he tries…
