I haven't seen domination by as much as what I see from Ledecky.   She wasn't even racing against people, just her old records lol.

The 800 medley.... she smashed her own WR, had her cap off and was waving to her family before anyone else even finished.

It was seriously crazy, when you think that's her best competition and she made them look like grade schoolers out there.

It didn't stay up long, already been taken down. I haven't seen what is posted but I know exactly what you guys are talking about I saw it live as well. I have it dvr'd here's a gif instead.

I am trying to figure out what the hell happened! It's obvious she was traveling at a deceivingly high rate of speed. At first I thought maybe her rear tire broke loose because of the paint line, but it breaks loose before the tire crosses the line. So, did she just lock down the front brakes knowing she had no rear traction in order to stop? I thought maybe she hit the curb and it caused her to go over the bars. But it's clear the front wheel locked up before she made to the curb. Was it a mechanical failure? Maybe she locked it down to avoid being obliterated by the trees? Hitting trees at that rate of speed would probably be life threatening, if not obliterating. Maybe there is a steep drop off on the other side of the tree line? I can only speculate she intentionally locked down the front wheel knowing the disastrous results. I thought she was dead too!

I've done some road racing in my time and had a few crashes.. and still some scars. This is the same stretch where several of the men went down during their race. She, as were the men, was doing about 35-40 mph into a decreasing radius turn and should have been way to the left going into the corner. Then throw on top of that the fact the turn is covered by a canopy of trees and remains pretty damp most of the time and you've got yourself a bike wreck.

Watch this one:

I'm an Olympics junky and have been mainlining since it started. Luckily it will be over soon so I can get back to obsessing about the Panthers. Right now I feel so disconnected from you idiots.

Seriously though, I thought for sure that RIO was gonna screw this up bigger than they have. I'm glad I was wrong. However, we should stop bankrupting these 3rd/2nd world countries with these games. They will never use the majority of these venues and facilities ever again. Does the 2 weeks of cash really make the whole thing worth it? I say everyone puts money into the kitty and we build a permanent site in Greece. All Summer Olympics are now always in Greece. And everyone helps pay to build it.

I have no idea where the Winter Olympics should be though. Vancouver? Lillehammer? I don't know. But saddling these countries with a huge debt is not worth the honor of hosting the games. I get it, it's cool and all but then at least there would also be consistency. Thoughts?

I found a great blog years ago while doing fantasy football research. Stop laughing .

The sports economist blog. This guy is called by cities or the feds for hearings on the very topic you mention.

I think Atlanta was the last city to " break even".

It's just not sustainable long term. As cool as the Olympics are in Rio they could have used those funds for the uber poor. Brazil has a long history of sports corruption. Especially soccer.

You mean the 800 free....the 400 individual medley is the longest IM race.  I live and breath this swimming crap (know more about that sport than I ever wanted to).  All three of my kids swim competitively and my oldest son is headed off to college next week and will swim there.

But, you are correct about Ledecky.  What she can do in a pool is mind boggling.  To be that much faster than the best in the world is beyond remarkable.  I hope nothing comes out in the future about her cheating....I don't think she is.  But when you are that much better and smashing WR's, it does make a lot of people think.

my son actually got to swim in a meet against Cullen Jones and Ryan Lochte last year.  He got the ever living poo kicked out of him.  But he said it was beyond cool to be on the sand pool deck and warming up with them.

Im in France right now and according to all the news here, the US looks terrible in this Lochte situition and it's the last thing the US wanted to happen and Brazil...well they are I guess at no fault.

So American athletes get robbed and then taken off a plane and not allowed to leave and America looks bad?  Am I missing something?

Still a fuzzy situation on what happened to Lochte and the others.

Meanwhile is the police investigating the ones who dressed as police? Where were the American swimmers that woulf make them appear to have to fabricate a story like this. Just say you got robbed if you were at a seedy place and call it a day.

    • Honestly for over month. I was meaning to do a troll "Super sleeper WR had a off year on a bad team...." thread that featured Dionte Johnson...... let the poop fly. I didn't mind it either, Ive been looking to use that gif for months. Juan cannot take all of them..
    • Steal of the century with Nolen at 57. It didn't stop there either. I know you cannot fill all the needs/wants, WR was just never in the cards. Since it felt fantasy I drafted a Clemson player.... I feel less than 2% chance walker makes it to 8th, he along with jenty are the start of tier 2.  I'd trade yosh for future late rounder since Emery Jones is the RT of the future. Or wait until TC injuries hit OT, yosh should have a little trade value.  2026 this draft could yield 5-7 starters if the lotto is real.....
    • Ny Times           Jaylin Walker to Raiders   8. Carolina Panthers: Mykel Williams, edge, Georgia The second Georgia player to go in the top 10, Williams was injured in the 2024 opener against Clemson and didn’t get to play much in the first half of last season. But he was back for a big game at Texas in October and gave UT fits, notching two sacks. He had two more sacks against the Longhorns in the SEC title game. The 6-5, 260-pounder has 34 1/2-inch arms with potential that makes D-line coaches giddy. “He was banged up a lot this year, but when he was close to 100 percent, he’s super twitchy,” an SEC tight ends coach said. “He’s a freak.” He’ll boost a Carolina team that had the worst pass rush in the league. “He’s more of the traditional defensive end guy than Walker,” said an SEC O-line coach who was really impressed by both Georgia players. “He can either be that 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 end. He has real pass rush ability. I think he’s an elite edge rusher. He’s great chasing from behind, and he can play the run well enough.”   ESPN Rd 1 8. Carolina Panthers Jalon Walker, Edge/LB, Georgia The Panthers have made a series of edge rusher investments over the past two years, but none has massively moved the needle. The Panthers -- who allowed the most yards per play (6.0) and tied for the third-fewest sacks (32) last season -- could truly address their need in the top 10, though. Walker had 6.5 sacks in 2024 even though he spent a lot of his time patrolling the middle of the field at off-ball linebacker. Carolina could deploy Walker in a hybrid role since it needs a boost at both linebacker and edge rusher.   rd 2  57. Carolina Panthers (via LAR) Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State At 5-foot-10 and 194 pounds, Noel might be a better fit in the slot than outside. But he has serious explosion, averaging 14.9 yards per catch last season en route to 1,194 yards and eight scores. Noel could join Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker to form an intriguing young WR corps.   NFL.COM. IDEAL FIRST 2 picks Round 1: No. 8 overall: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State Round 2: No. 57 overall: Kevin Winston Jr. S, Penn State The Panthers might have bigger needs on their roster than at tight end, but they are unlikely to find a more impactful player on offense than Warren. His presence as a safety valve and red-zone threat would aid Bryce Young's progression as a third-year starter. In this scenario, they take Winston -- a rangy, secure tackler -- to play beside free-agent pick-up Tre'von Moehrig. By taking two prospects from the same school with their first two picks, they follow the lead of the Rams (who actually traded Carolina this year's 57th overall pick as part of the process of pairing Jared Verse and Braden Fiske of Florida State) and Jaguars (who took Brian Thomas Jr. and Maason Smith out of LSU) last year.
