The thing is, even if you have a great QB and a great OC, you still need all 11 players to do the right thing for a play to work, and sometimes it still doesn't work if the defense makes a good play. Also, there are a lot of plays that are designed to set up other plays later in the game. Just because a play gets a 1yd gain, doesn't mean it was a wasted play or a bad call.

I was going to point this out. As fans we don't have and can't have the entire picture for the game or even one series. We haven't studied what the players & coaches have. And many fans look at each play as black & white, good or bad (which, here in the Huddle, I tend to blame on the level of sobriety or lack of). Sometimes I can catch the setup plays live & sometimes I can't until I watch the game again. But that is why I love the game: the long game strategy.

I am very, very happy with Shula. At times it can be frustrating, yes, but we have to remember there is another team on the field & they study & practice too. You have to add Dorsey & Anderson & Webb to the great QB team. Remember, Cam started with Chud & Clauson. We are a long way from that. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the QB meeting room.

The problem with the haters (that is what it is, whether they admit it or not),  is they never blame the players for failure of execution. They say it comes back to the coach to coach them up. The problem with that bs, is the coaches have coached them up, or the coach wouldn't have the confidence to call the play, period.

It's up to the players to go out and execute. The players, are humans, and make mistakes. It happens, no matter how much they work/practice to eliminate those mistakes.

The players also are more prone to mistakes, when playing a team that stymies them. That is why coacges always preach to keep their cool, and just do their job.

In 99% of the times that fans blame coaching, more often than not, it's failed execution. It's up to the players to hold themselves accountable. Another reason to have a team of players that aren't knuckleheads.
