That's the spirit!

Can't wait until Shula has one more year under his belt.  Then I think we probably can start the will he have a statue threads.

There will be a Shula statue I am sure.

Y'all are just now realizing what I have said for years. Mike is only in his second stint as an NFL OC and to his great credit he has learned and grown from folks like  Chudzinski, Proehl, and the players. He has done well as long as he has had the talent he needs. What even I didn't know was how creative and innovative he could be maximizing the players he has. Most OCs make players conform to their system while Shula is one of the rare few who adapt their system to who they have on the team like he did revamping the run game when Benjamin went down. I don't know about genius but he seems to be coming into his own

I feel like he could tell that our QB was basically threatening mutiny. No one was happy with that shitty play calling. I do not like him and still contest that there are much better OCs out there but I'll admit he has cleaned up some of the garbage. I'm ready to pounce right back on the hate-train as soon as I see Kelvin on an end around or Bersin as the number one option on a red-zone play.

Thank God for you.

I just think Ron, Shula, Cam is a great pairing.  For all parties.

I think Cam's career would look at lot different if he landed with a team that insisted he be X because all QBs should be X.   Ron and Shula were great coaches IMO to land Cam.   I think Cam could of been wasted lots of places.

OK @panthers55, you were right! I even threw in some pie. But, just so you know, this isn't my first thread praising Shula. Much like Shula's thinking about play calling, it's been a process.

You probably won't like this, but I'd still rather have had Hue.

We are all Panther fans and love the same team. It is great to see you praise Shula and jump on board the train. There is plenty of room aboard and all are welcome. I can't remember when I was more excited for a Panther team than I am this one. Last year was a surprise and not wholly expected. But now we have had time to anticipate and now are beginning the journey. But now anything less than a trip to the big game is a big disappointment.

You have to admit that those play are very creative just highly ineffective.

no one expects to see kelvin on an end around until you see it.

Shula admittedly didn’t understand much about the read-option when he arrived here in 2011 as the quarterbacks coach under coordinator Rob Chudzinski. His background was in a pro-style scheme.

But what made Shula successful as a coordinator the past three seasons is his willingness to change. He reached out to those in college and the NFL with knowledge of the offense, and then implemented it with his own ideas.

He still does.

Predictably, Shula credits Newton and others, deflecting the attention and compliments.

“We’ve got smart guys,’’ the son of NFL Hall of Fame coach Don Shula said. “They don’t want to let each other down. When you have guys that are motivated, when you have guys like that, you can do more things than maybe we’ve done with other teams in the past.’’

The Panthers were explosive last season, able to take advantage of the speed ofTed Ginn Jr. and Philly Brown, and teams ganging up on the run, to throw over the top. Ginn had a career high 10 touchdown catches, and Brown added four.

That helped propel Newton to a career best 35 touchdown passes and the league MVP award.

But Shula expects teams to adjust and take away the explosiveness the way Denver did in a 24-10 victory in Super Bowl 50. That’s why the challenge is to find new ways to be unpredictable without sacrificing what was successful.

“Last year is over,’’ Shula said. “Nobody cares about that. It was a lot of fun until the end. That’s the feeling we all have. And that end was no fun at all.

“So we’ve got to keep that in mind and use that as motivation and continue to get better.’’

“You want to continue to be explosive, but sometimes teams won’t let you be that way,’’ Shula said. “They make you have to throw the ball underneath. We have to be very consistent with that and be patient when it’s time to be patient.

“But also continue to find ways to stay on the field. We feel like if we do, there’ll be some openings where we can take strikes.’’

If that means doing some of the things that earned him a reputation for having a boring offense, Shula is fine with that. He’s not worried about what people say.

“That really has never bothered me,’’ Shula said. “The thing about last year, it’s just exciting to win. . . . That’s really what you’re in this thing for.

“The stats, whether or not you’re a player or a coach, those are good. But really we all only want one thing. We want to find a way to get back to that Super Bowl and be on that stage at the end.’’

The thing that is making this coaching staff great is their willingness to learn and make adjustments.  They did not come here believing they were finished products.  It seems they are smart, humble, and relate well to the players.  They pick smart players who are solid citizens and then figure out how to maximize their talents...oh...and I should add the coaches are very good teachers.

How many coaches reach out to other coaches to learn about something? We know Rivera does it, now we know Shula does it. This coaching staff is unique and refreshing IMO. Also that applies to the FO and owner.

The 2016 season is fast approaching and it is time for me to say....I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

Shula stood in the way of Cam for more than a season. Things were horrible until the Vikings game in 2014 when the coaches threw in the towel with a 3-8-1 record on their coaching philosophy of keep it close, run until you are behind by a couple scores, and make Cam a pocket QB. Thankfully they tossed out the front office experiments/disasters. They gave up on that crap and let Cam be Cam and they let the defense take gambles when they saw certain keys from the opposing offense.

Essentially, the coaches got out of the players' way and now they are winning. I am glad they canned that garbage Shula was running in 2013 and most of 2014.

As long as the core players from 2011/2012 keep playing their game in spite of the coaching and front office the Panthers will keep winning. I just hope they did not get rid of too many of the key players to keep winning.

No, Shula continues to be a liability. Cam could make an offensive game plan called by Rex Ryan look good. He is recognized as the best player in the NFL.

Shula's average Sunday to Sunday play calling is adequate. But he continues to demonstrate a remarkable ability to call the most idiotic plays at the most inappropriate times in big games.

Hopefully this year we overcome it.

I see some people still can't give Shula any credit. The man has done a tremendous job. We had the #1 offense in the league last year without a legitimate #1 WR. I don't care who your QB is, that's impressive. Hell, how many OC's have ever been successful without a really good QB? You can't hold that against him.

We lost that Super Bowl because Denver had the best defense in the league and our guys made uncharacteristic  mistakes. You can't pin that on the OC.
