There are shltty people in this world

So about 6 months ago, I ran into an old friend who was in town for business. We caught up over dinner because we hadn't seen each other in over 10 years.  He lives in the Midwest, and he was planning on being in town for a couple months working on a project.  Coincidentally I had been planning a guys trip to go rent an RV and go to Talledega for NASCAR race this summer. One of the guys that was supposed to go on the trip backed out, so I had a spot to fill. I invited my buddy and he accepted.  Since I was organizing the trip with people I trusted, I prepaid for everything.  It ended up being $600 per person which everyone was supposed to pay me back.

You can probably see where this story is going, he didn't bring me the money when he showed up for the trip, and promised to send me a check as soon as he got home.  Obviously the guy never sent a check, so I called him a week after the trip, he said it would send it, then he never did.  Now the guy won't return any of my calls or texts.

Shame on me for being to trusting, but it's such a bltch move on his end for ducking out and not paying his debt.  $600 is a lot of money, but at the end of the day, it won't break me.  It sucks that I have to eat this cost, but I am the type of guy, that if a friend was in true need for money, I would likely give that friend money. The thing that pisses me off, is this guy makes a lot of money, so it's not like he doesn't have it to pay back.  I think karma will catch up with this guy, it's too bad I can't show up to his work or home in person to confront him.

I'm sure you guys have similar stories...

I learned a long time ago that there are a lot of people just like the guy you described. It's sad and unfortunate and I also learned a long time ago to never put myself in that position again.

Late summer 2002, we live in VA at the time and I bought 4 tickets to see The Who in Madison Square Garden with Robert Plant opening. Myself, the wife, her brother (who lives up there) and my wife's uncle (who also lives up there) are going. Wife's uncle stiffs us...

Wife's uncle had a timeshare in Aruba at the Marriott beach Club for a few years. Invites us down for a week. We arrive on the island a few hours before him, get to the hotel and they tell us he's failed to pay his annual "maintenance fee" of $900.00 and we can't check in until it's paid, so I take care of that. He never so much as asked about it.

And you don't want to know that I've arranged to get the 2 seats next to mine at BOA about 3-4 times for people who wanted to see a Panthers game and I ended up selling them outside the stadium.

Yeah, the wife and I absolutely quit fronting the purchase several years ago after getting stiffed a few times like that...

I would send him a ''courtesy letter" via Certified Mail that you are providing him up to 2 weeks to send you payment in full and if by August ....., 2016, you have no other recourse other than to take him to Small Claims Court. See if scaring him into a legal fight will be enough to have him send a check and it will only cost you a letter and some postage. Of course, you don't have to proceed with filing but it's worth atleast trying to get your money back.

People always paid me back... Always.

But then again... I rarely pay for people.

Who was to piss of a guy with a Russian accent? A fake phone call talking in Russian about anything while staring the person in the eyes would be enough to get them to pay.

Yeah it sucks, i pretty much only pay for people I love to death. i paid for a friend's airline ticket once because he was unwise with his money.

He didn't pay me back. I told him I didnt mind paying for him but next time it needed to be a gift and not a loan. 2 years later he paid me back when he got the money. I was very touched.

My problem at the moment is making people uncomfortable with my generosity. I love buying poo for my friends lol.

    • There's some big assumptions in here - first, I think Canales HAS helped Bryce a poo ton. To pretend he hasn't is asinine. Has he fixed him?  I mean, the dude looks like he could perhaps be a backup or low-end starter now, whereas he looked like he didn't belong in the NFL a year ago. You're talking about a coach that brought one of the worst NFL QBs of all time to a point where he may actually be a low-end starter. That IS impressive. Second, the bolded. Come on - given the offense, the dude is far from "trending towards bust." He definitely needs work but he's shown an impressive ability to get open. He's contributing to an anemic offense. The dude is our leading receiver (though he'll be #2 in yardage by end of season by a little, as Thielen does better per game).  As to his coaching, he had this team competing and believing against 3 of the better teams in the NFL, despite the lack of talent, and despite our QB situation.  Yes, things fell apart vs DAL, and he was outcoached. But that will happen with young coaches IMO.  I don't think it indicates he cant' be better. The idea of "pulling off the bandage" is ridiculous. Who would want to coach here if we fired this guy after one season?
    • Whatever they are in totality the cowboys are beat up all to hell on both sides of the ball and even that was too much for lil Bryce to overcome.  Bryce defenders have to hype up every other team and trash every other part of the panthers just because of the situation they’ve put themselves in.
    • JB had a first round grade in the eyes of a lot scouts based on HIS TALENT LEVEL. If not for the injury he would have gone higher in the draft, possibly between the middle and the end of round 1. To get him just before the 50th pick is a steal. He'd be on a 4 year deal. You can't even renegotiate until the end of the season 3. You're basically paying him nothing for 3 seasons. I don't buy into all back are interchangeable. No they're not. You have average backs, good backs, then your great-exceptional backs. The latter category doesn't grow on trees. If a back is special it pays to keep them. The key is knowing the difference between the first two categories and the third one.
