Why do opposing fan bases and fans think the Panthers don't pay their players?

I don't get this fallacy at all.  I've talked to many fans of other teams stating "you guys let Norman go, that's going to be a mistake.  Should've paid him."  or "Letting Smitty go was dumb, because you guys wanted to be cheap."

Do you guys understand where this poo comes from?  They always think the Panthers let their players go, and don't pay them "like they should."

Yeah all these "questionable" decisions that have long term implications have led to a loaded SB team. At the time the short sighted instant gratification people couldnt comprehend what was comming but a few of us did. I was beating the Gettleman drum in the midst of the smitty fallout. Dude.. We are loaded right now, with our own home grown talent. Hey, lets be the redskins and overpay for other teams developments and barely have any of their home grown.

Yrah, heres what I say about the "should have done this" or "should have done that" statements..

Like for example, name some studs on the redskins where were origionally drafted by them..

the TE Reed? Kurt?

Yeah lets appease the fugtard fanbase and over pay for players that arent our own and dont even fit, to get these fugtard fans to get a cheap buzz watching the other fugtards on NFL network to slob the teams knob and act like they are much improved. Fug off

Dude, this one guy's comeback stated "Smitty put fans in the seats.  He deserved to stay there until he retired."  I was like "uh, we just sold out Fan Fest for the first time ever.  Not to mention, our Training Camp practices have had over 55 thou.  The most ever."  He of course didn't have much of a rebuttal to that.

Dude, this was an Eagles fan.  That's what makes matters worse.  I wanted to be like "did you want us to overpay him like you guys did Asmougha a few years back?"

you'd think we never lost a game when steve smith was here or something.  i've read so much stuff exactly like that.  and having gone to a bunch of games during his years here i can definitively say that, no, smith's mere presence didn't pack the stadium.

there are some fans who are bigger on players/personalities, which i think is fine.  but it can very easily get emotional and lead to some wildly fallacious arguments.

also this thread is gonna get cpantherking'd because this is kind of his number one pet topic

Meh, it's just negativity when it's our own fan base.  So, it's whatever in that regard.  But, when this fallacy leaks over to other fan bases.  That's what fuging kills me.

It's because there are only about 3 teams in the league with GM's as good as Gettleman.  Most fan bases are used to seeing their GM throw millions at average, unproven talent.  I for one am elated that we have DG balancing our check book.

i'll lurk on the NFL subreddit from time to time and it's fun to see knowledgeable fans from other teams look at our roster, look at our cap figure, and go slack jawed.

If you meet ridiculous contract demands you get slammed. If you refuse to break the bank in order to keep all your star players you also get slammed. The solution is to ignore the blowback and do what makes sense for the long term success of the team, which is what Gettleman seems to be doing.

I see players wanting to play for us. Most aren't saying 'no thanks, you guys are cheap', and the ones who are? Do we want a DeAndre Hopkins, who's apparently so dumb that he thought a holdout would hurt anyone but him?

Man I still get people who say we didn't pay peppers.......And I just look at them.

the funny thing is, hurney actually made a hard run at it at the very end.  i think our final shot at locking him up was $17 million/year in 2010 before he signed up with the bears.  at the time i believe that would have made him the highest paid defensive player in the league.

    • from the observer     Miami Dolphins. The Panthers will welcome one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, led by Alabama alum Tua Tagovailoa and fast-as-a-cheetah Tyreek Hill, to Bank of America Stadium in 2025. The Dolphins are 8-8 this year and are 6-2 against the Panthers all-time. *Seattle Seahawks. This home matchup marks a full-circle moment for Dave Canales, who cut his NFL teeth under Pete Carroll in Seattle. Carolina is 4-9 all-time against the Seahawks and lost the last contest in the matchup in 2023. Seattle is 9-7 heading into Week 18. *Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are perennial playoff contenders and have notched seven winning seasons the past eight years. The Panthers are 12-10 against the Rams all-time. *Buffalo Bills. This year it was the Kansas City Chiefs. This year’s Super Bowl contenders making a trip to Bank of America Stadium? Josh Allen and the Bills. The Panthers are 2-6 all-time against the Buffalo franchise. New York Giants / Cowboys. The Panthers had a home game — technically — against the Giants this year. That was in Germany, of course. And the 2025 Giants (3-13 entering Week 18) will look a lot different than the ones the Panthers faced in Munich, what with a new quarterback coming and a refurbished offense. That is, of course, if the Panthers finish last in the NFC South. If not, they face the Cowboys (7-9) New England Patriots. Panthers fans get an up-close look at their homegrown NFL quarterback when Carolina travels to Foxborough to take on the Drake Maye-led Patriots. The Pats are 3-13 entering Week 18. New York Jets. The Jets are 4-12 this year and have an existential crisis to handle this offseason — with their situations at quarterback and their head coach not exactly stable. At least for now, it feels like a compelling matchup for the Panthers on the road. San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers seem much better than 6-10. And they will likely be in 2025 — particularly if former Panther Christian McCaffreystays healthy. The Panthers are 13-9 against San Francisco all-time. Chicago Bears / Green Bay Packers. The Panthers are either playing the last-placed Bears or the second-to-last-place Packers in 2025, two very different. The mostly that emerged from Soldier Field this season focused on how much the Bears had “fleeced” the Panthers in their blockbuster trade before the 2023 season. But with Bryce Young playing well and the Bears in free fall and with a new coach incoming, that perception might be different next season. Tennessee Titans / Jaguars. The Panthers are facing either the last-place team or the second-to-last place team in the AFC South in 2025, depending on Sunday’s results. (A Titans win and a Jaguars loss could knot them at 4-13 each, but the Jags have the edge with their divisional record and would thus earn the tiebreaker.) Arizona Cardinals. The Panthers are also facing the Cardinals, who are entering Week 18 with a 7-9 record.
    • Who is J. Stafford and R Prescott? Looks like a random number generator piece of AI crap
    • Our offense averages 18.6 points per game, good for 25th in the league this year. Not great. worst offense ever? 7.4 ppg. Over 11 points per game difference. our defense? 31 ppg. Good for 32nd (by a lot) worst defense ever? 32.5 ppg by the 2020 lions.
