I think Godfrey was a decent player at S before his Achilles injury. I remember him starting right out of the gate his rookie year on a 12-4 team.

He was average at best but below average when he wasn't. He showed a lot of promise as a rookie but never really improved much afterwards.

I have no ill will towards him and wish him the best.

Godfrey had a toughness that I admired, but like most of the safeties we've had over the years he was the 3 S's, short, stout, and slow. He was the typical Panthers budget safety. We always have a few of those on the roster because we don't value the safety position in our defense.

I was driving home the night they announced his contract extension. Nearly drove right off the road when I heard the numbers.

Godfrey was one of those guys that if all you saw were his highlight plays, you'd go "hey, he's pretty good". If you watched the entire game though, you were cringing and shaking your head.

    • I have watched every Hornets game this season, minus the first game against the Heat.  I'm extremely frustrated with the injury situation even though I know it's not the players fault.  It just every season the same damn thing.  No matter who we draft, sign, or trade for, it's like we're cursed.  Melo and Brandon cannot win games by themselves, and it's honestly impressive how close they've come to doing that recently in several close, winnable games.  Mark Williams needs to get his ass back on the court soon or the ownership needs to start thinking long-term Plan B at Center, because without help inside, our dynamic backcourt will continue to see constant double teams.  And I love Moussa but he's not NBA starting center material.  Offensive hands on the level of Biyombo.
