Coleman extended per rappaport*updated*

The cornerbacks had to clean up after Coleman a lot last season. Many of you do not realize how many times he let receivers get by him, how many poor angles he took, and how many times he missed tackles.

Getting interceptions while playing center field as FS is a luxury afforded a safety from their corners reducing the field they have to cover and the LBs being able to effectively take care of the underneath coverage.

If Coleman is moving to SS, you all are going to wish he never got the extension. Roman Harper is 10x better at SS than Coleman, and Harper was average for a SS at this point in his career. Tre Boston is a FS. You do not want Boston at SS. The Panthers would be better with Colin Jones at SS than Coleman or Boston.

ooooh how edgy.

coleman's biggest problem is overpursuit in the run game, that i'll grant you. but you have to recognize the fallacy of not contextualizing a guy's bad plays in his body of work. i can show you a funny gif of any HOF player whiffing on a tackle or missing an assignment, but only fools call substantiation without corrobration.

as someone who analyzed all-22 film for every regular season game in 2015, i can tell you for a fact that rivera and mcdermott used the FS position very much like the SS position last year. because of coleman's versatility in run support, he was often flexed down into the box a la strong safety duty as a way to disguise the coverage and confuse offenses who weren't sure what look they were given. and he often played that role to fruition, keeping defenses honest, and even contributing to interceptions by guys like norman due to coverage ambiguities - here, you can read about one of them right here.

if coleman looks bad at SS it'll be due to inadequacies across the board in the secondary, not because he isn't physically or mentally suited to play the position.

Hmm. I guess that's in addition to this this year, given it's an extension of three years, so we have him for four seasons now!? If we have him for slightly over two this year, and then the next three for an average of those three of 17/3 = 5,7 - I'm good with that..

That is a serious steal.  5.6 mil per year.

Makes him the 16th highest paid safety in the league looking at average per year.

I was expecting 6.5 million per season easy.
