Yeah, you're right. Let's throw millions of dollars at him, put ourselves in the position to depend on him and hope he doesn't screw up again.

What could go wrong?

See, the thing is that in the other thread and this thread, no one made mention of going out and signing him. Do I trust them to be available for 16 games each season? No. But they may be worth the money because you are beginning to also see a pattern with Leveon Bell.

Personally, I think marijuana use shouldn't be tested for. It isn't a performance enhancing substance, it doesn't endanger anyone in the work place and it isn't a concern of the NFL's until it becomes a legal issue, yet they go out of their way to test for it.

If your context is in reference to a guy who supposedly wants to utilize his strong talent for catching the football in the NFL but can't get out of his own way and continues to use banned substances, the legality of which is irrelevant for matters of employment pretty much anywhere, yes. You're doing it right.

The legality of which is relevant because you don't see employers testing for alcohol (I know how alcohol works and that it would be pretty much impossible to detect beyond 24 hours). Alcohol is far more damaging in players lives than anything i've seen related to marijuana.

Headline: Part of intoxicated brawl at bar, Yells derogatory slurs at person and almost starts fight, Flips car with teammate, one person dead.

Headline: Pulled over for speeding, smelled marijuana. Stopped in Parking Lot, smelled marijuana. Instagram post shows past marijuana use.

The legality is relevant and should be part of a larger conversation. Though Josh Gordon is guilty of his fondness for both which leads me to believe that this won't be his last four game suspension. Despite how much Robert Griffen Junior to the Junior is disliked, he is on the straight and narrow, played with Gordon in college and may be able to get him focused on the right things.

Your point about alcohol compared to marijuana, while not necessarily invalid in the big picture, is a straw-man in this discussion. Pretty much all employers (not just the NFL) have policies against controlled substances. Not all employers test for it like sports leagues do, but Josh knows he will be tested and chooses to do it anyway. This qualifies as dumb.

Regardless of its pros and cons alcohol is legal and is not a banned substance, but pretty much anyone will still be disciplined and/or fired if they show up to work at a big corporate job (like the NFL) after drinking. If they choose to do so anyway, this also qualifies as dumb.

The bottom line is that he has continued to go against the well-known and well-documented requirements of the employer he wishes to continue working for (the NFL), which qualifies as dumb if he wants to keep working there. I sincerely hope he gets things figured out and can keep his career alive, but what's done is done and failing another drug test would be no one's fault but his own.

You do realize that when a player is in the Substance Abuse protocol, they do test for alcohol as well, right? And what difference does it make if it is legal? If your job says you can't do it, and you signed a contract with that company, then you don't get to do it. Work place policies cannot violate the law, but they certainly can be more strict.

Why do people have to bring the legality of weed into every discussion about players getting suspended, or caught on video, or arrested, for weed? The bottom line is, you get paid millions of dollars by a company that says "Do Not Smoke Pot". If you do it anyway, and lose your millions of dollars, then you are an idiot. It really is just that simple.

Exactly.  Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a damn job..  They could outlaw caffeine if they wanted. You're getting paid millions of dollars to do your job.  If they tell you to stay off weed, you stay off weed.  Doesn't matter if it's legal or not.  And if you get caught, it's no one's fault but your own
