The God's Honest Truth About Jake

He is not Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or any other Hall of Fame quarterback.

But the Panthers do not ask him to be. They don't ask him to carry the offense on his shoulders, but everyone who has ever seen him play knows he's a competitor, and he gives us a shot to win almost every game he starts in. With a couple obvious exceptions. For a John Fox offense to work, we need a capable backfield, an established running game, and a receiver we can count on. We have all those things.

Most importantly, Jake leads this team. I will recall the Chicago game from last year, when every single defensive player on that field told you after the game that he fired them up. They wanted to protect their guy. Not Chris Harris, Beason, Davis or Peppers. JAKE!

His teammates are obviously willing to go to war for him, and you know that he'll do the same until the cows come home.

Once again, he's not a Drew Brees 6TD game kinda guy, he's not going to break the passing touchdowns single-season record, and he will never be considered for the Hall of Fame.

But most importantly, when he's being Jake, he gives us a chance to win, and he leads the team like no other player on the roster can.

He's not asked to throw 30+ passes a game, and the Panthers have a losing record when he does. Typically that's because we've had to come out of our offensive shell, and we've most certainly gotten away from running the ball because it wasn't working, or we're in such a hole we have no choice but to throw the ball every down.

I do not understand, how even after today, some think that he's not the best quarterback we have on the roster. The Eagles cut Feely to keep Kolb, who'd never started a game in the NFL. Feely is not the answer to our prayers.

Jake is not a God-send, but he's not the root of all our probelms, either. He's not even the cause of MOST of our problems.

I can think of 2/3 of the Panthers (Defense and ST) that were worse today than the offensive unit.

Dude, we got enough "..........ly" cheerleaders.

Does anyone else get tired of hearing what Jake is as an excuse to why a "game Manager" turns the ball over repeatedly? What other game managers turn the ball over as much as he does...........Ever. Hes a bad qb. He had hours to throw the ball yesterday. That is about as good of a game you can expect him to have...................................................................yea!

I swear Chris Leak could step into that role at min salary and give us five times what delhomme does. Both got noodles, but leak is much smarter with the ball.

Jake's been at the helm of a 7-9 team and an 8-8 team, and it looks fairly certain that he will be leading a losing team in 2009 as well.

8-8 is not losing. It's not winning, but it's not losing.

Even the 8-8 team (or maybe it was the 7-9) was in the playoff hunt until the last week when your Saints beat us. One of those years was without Steve Smith on the field because he broke his leg the first game of the season.

You can not say with any degree of certainty that this will be a losing team. Chargers were 0-2 last year, finished with a winning record.

They play 16 games for a reason.

I don't like calling Jake a game manager either. Since 2004 (not 2003) he's tied for 4th in 4th quarter comebacks. Sounds like he can win games when he needs to as well. Chris Leak? I dont think you realize how few qbs can actually win in the NFL. It's HARD

Your defense was already awful and you just lost one of your starting DTs to a broken ankle, not to mention Jake is a huge question mark. Fox would have to pull off his best coaching job yet to have sucess this year.

Defense, a good QB(Pats, Colts, Giants, and Steelers all have one), and a solid running game is why teams have consistent sucess. You need all three pieces of the puzzle.

Colts were never and have never been known for their defense. The Steelers are known for their defense more than their offense. Out of those 4 teams, I can give you the Pats and the Giants for being the most balanced on both sides, including having a good quarterback.

I think Jake is a good quarterback. I think Brady and Manning are great quarterbacks, and Big Ben and Eli can be great. But I think Jake's good.

In quarterbacks one of the things you always hear people talk about is the intangibles. Just like you can't teach speed, and you can't coach quickness, you can't teach the leadership that Jake shows. Or his fire. He leads the team in a manner that draws respect from his teammates, and he's the guy they listen to.

Well then lets wait til the end of the season before we decide whether or not this is a losing season. Fair enough?

The Colts defense has been good, not great but good.

lol.

Intangibles are useless if you're a 34 year old turnover machine.

For Panther fans that want a consistent quarterback...

There are FOUR quarterbacks in the NFL that have appeared in

more than one Super Bowl.

Brady

Warner (Almost dead)

Roethlisberger

Favre (Dead)

Jake has taken us to the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons that he's played more than 3 games.

Even though our coaches suck balls I understand Fox not breaking the bank for a rookie qb cause Roethlisberger is the only one to go in the first round while many of the top qb picks turn out to be WORTHLESS. I don't expect people to gargle jakes balls but appreciate the great seasons we've had. Remember our boy Chris Weinke we got in the 4th round? I hear he's a free agent...

Panthers running backs probably have 2x the number of touchdowns as Saints RBs since 2003.

And Drew has 35-40 more TDs than Jake.

It equals out, and further proves the point that a great quarterback can't get it done by himself, but a good quarterback can get it done with help.

I could be wrong but I think Brees is 1-2 in the Playoffs. Jake is 4-2 (I believe).
