Anyone who blames Jake Delhomme for this loss...

Jake was a mediocre QB yesterday, which for him, is an up day.

This is really the biggest thing here. Jake apologists took leave last week because there wasn't a single thing they could say. Now, since Jake has had a "good" week, they come out once more.

The problem is, he had a mediocre day, and people come out to defend him. He didn't lose the game this week. Congratulations Jake Super Fans, you have something to fap-fap to until next week. We're 0-2.

I'm not sure that punt was all Baker's fault. It looked like he caught it laces down and turned the wrong way (I know that sounds weird, but it does make a difference). He had to flip the ball end for end, then roll it to get the laces up and then set up an Aussie-style kick to drop the kick where it needed to go.

Too much to do, too little time to do it and the Falcons were going for the block. They've got great special teams and ours, well, we're definitely out of sync. Really missing Jason Kyle right now, but maybe Jansen will come along.

Shall I replay the desperate underhand the ball away to avoid the sack nevermind the linebacker standing right there waiting for it?

I don't doubt it. There are plenty of mediocre QB's in the league.

Very true. I wont argue that Jake is anything more then a mediocre QB.

As a Jake critic i will say. Jake could have played alot better. He sure as hell didn't lose the game for us though. I thank the play-caller for not putting the game on his shoulders. We lost the game in the trenches. We couldn't stop the run and we couldn't get the run going. You can name plays that could have been made but then you are just wondering what could have happened.

It looked to me in the replays like he flipped it around to the exact same position that he received it in. He also kept his head down and took an extra step or two, as if he had no idea that the Falcons were sending 11 guys at him.

As a Panther Fan, I think many of us have gotten our football views distorted by the current QB situation. I will use Matt Ryan as an example since we just played the Falcons.

The QB drops back to pass and.....

(Falcons Fans think) Alright!!!! Matt Ryan is going to get us nice gain!!! C'mon Matt throw it deep!

(Panthers Fans) My heart drops to my stomach and I think OH poo!!!!! C'mon Jake just don't f**k it up!!!

If the pass falls in complete......

(Falcons Fans think) Aww too bad!!! It must have been pass interference or something because Ryan usually makes that throw. Next time we'll get it!

(Panther Fans) Whew that was close! Thank God it wasn't another interception! Please hand it off to Williams or Stewart next time!!!

If the pass was completed......

(Falcons fans) Woo Hoo!!! Ryan is right on the money as usual! This is great!!!

(Panther Fans) OMFG!!! I can't hardly believe it....I knew Jake was a Gunslinger because it squeezed that right between double coverage!!!

If the pass was intercepted.....

(Falcons fans) WTF???? How did that happen?! It doesn't matter much because Matty Ice will bounce back and move us down the field on the next possession.

(Panthers Fans) Here we go again.....In my heart I expected this to happen because we are asking too much of Jake when he has to pass more than 18 times a game.

Panther Fans we have been conditioned to accept an incomplete pass as a good play for us because at least it wasn't a pick. I personally am getting pretty tired of being served shoe leather while paying for steak and every time I complain.....I'm told to accept it because it's better than nothing. This whole Fox/Hurney/Jake combo is getting very tiresome and it's only two games into the season.

Hate to state this in a Jake thread, but the reason we lost yesterday was because our D couldn't stop the ATL offense from converting on third downs.

But to keep this post "on topic"...

Did Jake play better than the last two games? Hell yeah

Was Jake perfect? Hell no

Was Jake stupid? A couple of times, yeah... like that underhanded pitch right into the hands of the defender (who thankfully dropped the ball) when he was in the process of being sacked

Did Jake miss reads and open receivers? Probably. It's easy to sit in the stands and say "oh, he coulda/shouda done this or that". The important thing a QB can do (especially one like Jake) is not screwing up what he DOES decide to do.

Do I wish we had another QB like Joe Flacco or Matt Ryan? Yes.

Did Jake lose that game? Not this time. See first sentence.
