Redskins view Cousins as easily replaceable

Profootballtalk.com reports Redskins GM Scot McCloughan did not meet Kirk Cousins' asking price in long-term talks because McCloughan believes he can find a cheaper replacement for Cousins "at some point in the next year or two."

In other words, the Skins view Cousins as a replacement-level quarterback.

Specifically, Florio wrote McCloughan "believes he can find a comparable quarterback who will be much cheaper than Cousins, at some point in the next year or two."

Florio reported Cousins wanted $44 million guaranteed at signing, far more than the $24 million McCloughan was willing to commit. As much as any quarterback in the league, Cousins has a ton riding on the 2016 season.

At least he's better than RG3. Wishing the foreskins best of luck...with the exception of our game in December :)

Not a lot of good quarterbacks in this league. Man, I'm just glad we're one of the few to have one. I don't blame the skins for being hesitant, but the big risk is Cousins going off next year and a then pissed off Kirk leaving like Osweiler did. You're right back in the QB hunt.

It'll be interesting watching this play out. I agree with the Skins that Cousins simply hasn't done enough for long enough to be worthy of a huge contract.  If Cousins has another good season, he'll be strongly positioned to cash in. If he struggles, some desperate team will likely still overpay for him.

Cousins looked pretty good at times. IDK who will be out there that gives you the same play but at a discount; agents are all trying to get the highest dollar they can. Fitzpatrick is out there now but he wants to get paid just like the rest. I think the NFL has shown that if you have an above average QB, you do what you can to keep him. You can win a SB with a Joe Flacco; you cannot do it with Jimmy Clausen.

He is probably trying to get Kapernick to replace RGIII.

But who are these teams winning Super Bowl with "above average QBs" who are on huge contracts? You can do it when the guy is still on his rookie contract leaving you with lots of money to put a great roster around him, but when you have that same guy eating up a huge chunk of your cap it gets a lot tougher to do.

Flacco had a cap hit of around $7M when the Ravens won the Super Bowl. Right after that, they made him the highest paid player in the NFL. Since then? 8-8, 10-6, 5-11 and only one playoff appearance.

Lmfao.

I remember when right before halftime against the eagles for the division lead late in the season, that washington needed to preserve the clock...  Kurt accidentally took a knee when he was supposed to spike it. Dude.. Im so glad we dont have a retard like that as our QB. I wouldnt pay him either. That moment just showed how much pure ass this guy is.

It's obvious that in the NFL today it takes at least good QB play to consistently win. As Panther fans, we know that all too well. Problem is that there just aren't 32 'good' QB's available. Teams like the Jets and Washington had better take a hard look at the 2015 Texans to gauge how important your QB is to winning. If they want to play the game of keeping their fingers crossed for the future, that's on them but I think it's a mistake. Not all 1st round QB's make it in the NFL. It's rare to find a Rodgers or Brady or Wilson past the 1st round. It's even more rare to have a Young start for a departed Montana.

Rodgers was a 1st round pick.
