It's become painfully obvious that Steve Smith...

...Just isn't the dominant receiver that he used to be. From the playoffs last year to the first two games this year. Case in point: the 4th down interception. Old steve smith would have easily come away with the ball the way it was placed in that one-on-one coverage.

Couple that with the drops, the deflections that have led to interceptions, and his inability to get separation in one-on-one coverage. Steve's best days are behind him.

I know, you'll say, "but his statz!"

Target any other starting caliber receiver in the league as much as we do to Steve and they get identical numbers.

Either he's lost a step or he's half-assing it out there. Knowing Steve, it's probably the former.

Smity was open, Jake threw it too late.

The coverage was good, of course he threw it too late. 3 years ago smith would have snatched it easily for the first.

I'm not saying smith isn't better than average. Just not dominant anymore.

I think he's getting beat up too much, and we put too much of our passing offense on his shoulders. He's a small guy to begin with, and he's in his 8th year now, and he has had major injuries before. Throwing more to our TEs should help him and Moose, and getting Jarret more involved is vital too, so we can develop HIM. We have other weapons, but they're no good to us if we don't use them!

maybe its the fact that hes lost some "chemistry" with delhomme, doesn't trust him much anymore.

Remember the catch by smitty in the saints game last year? The one where Jake chucked it up and he caught it in double coverage. THAT was "old" SS as you would call it. are you telling me he lost a step within two weeks?

    • I want to throw in how much easier it is for a QB to develop and improve with a good oline.  Huge credit to the front office for spending the money on our two guards.  Cade Mays also had a 2nd really good game starting at center.  Love how he has developed and hope he's the real deal. Look at what Stroud is dealing with now in Houston after injuries and problems with their oline.  Strouds accuracy has been greatly affected as it seems like he doesn't trust his protection. Canales is doing a great job developing Bryce.  I think the QB whisperer might be for real. And obviously big props to Bryce.  First round pick that looks horrible in his first year.  Different coaches and systems.  Fans and media are calling him the biggest bust in NFL history and he looked like it in the first two games this year.  Gets benched.  Young man keep his cool and just continued to work and only worry about what he can control.  I hope things continue like this and we end up with a great success story. Bryce Young kept pounding.
    • Outside of Philly (who currently is #3 in pass defense) the rest of our remaining opponents are bottom 1/3 of the League in that regard.  Let's see what Bryce can do versus bad pass Ds.
