I hope so. So Shaq eventually moves to WLB and CAR drafts a SLB next year or Klein starts at SLB in the future?

Plus we have Mayo waiting in the wings (even though he's more of a mlb.)

wouldnt be surprised to see us go

1. DE

2. SS

3. OLB

3. RB

4. DT

5. OL

6. CB

7. ?

OP mentioned Shaq's coverage and athleticism possibly freeing up Luke on Blitzes. Good thought but it also works the other way around, too. What's nice, is that we've seen Luke be extremely successful in coverage. Shaq's athleticism in coverage is also useful on the blitz. We know TD can cover and blitz.... Having three possibly (two definitely) elite players at the same position at the same time opens up so many options for the defense.

To think that we have 3 first-round picks this year... KB coming back from injury at a position that already outplayed their skill-set last year. Shaq coming off of what was essentially a red-shirt year learning the system and taking in thoughts from the best LB duo in the league. Not to mention our actual 1st round pick which will ensure our super-star DT stays rested and motivated on 100% of snaps. I expect a Charles TIllman-like signing here in the next few weeks to solidify our secondary and bring some much needed experience to the youngins.

TL;DR - Super Bowl

Shaquille played only 35% of the defensive snaps last season.

How much PT increase are we gonna see?

Does Shaq help out our secondary and free up Luke to play blitz packages?

I will say that Shaq's sideline to sideline speed is phenomenal and he's agile and physical enough to match-up with the leagues better "over the middle" TEs and receivers (as we saw vs Fitzgerald in the playoffs.)

I don't know what to expect, just hoping we get good dividends from our #1 draft pick now, sooner than later.

We will see a lot of Base 4-3 defense this year to help the young secondary out. It all starts out with DL with the addition of Paul Soliai & Vernon Butler we should be able to stop the run with out committing extra men to the box,  freeing up all 3 LBs for coverage , blitz, etc.. The defense is going to be # 1 this year and create even more T.O. than last year.

Bene is already a good player. He just needs to remain healthy, and the coaching staff need to stop moving him around - and he'll prove it once again.

All I'm saying is that we need CB help in a bad way, and I'm hoping that Bene can turn into a standout.

With TD still playing, I don't see shaq how he gets snaps. That was my huge issue with the pick this is the Nickle era of nfl. Even with luke missing 4.5 games, he still didn't get snaps. Shaq was mainly a STer. Sure he did handle Fitz in the championship game, now he has to force the coaching staff to give him snaps.

My thought in my warped mind is this - just say father time finally caught TD and shaq is killing it in training camp. Plus it's clear to everyone shaq is the better player now, how on earth does Ron Rivera(whom loves TD) handle this?

Wow. This would be a tough call. i don't see it happening this year, barring injury, but it is coming down the line sooner or later.  I do see McDermott and Rivera finding ways to get him more plays right now though. no reason to have him sitting around.

The last 3 draft classes are going to either sink or help get our team back to the SB.

KB, Boston, Bene', Shaq, Funchess, Turner, Williams and our rookie crop are all now key pieces in our starting lineups.

I like our team makeup and expect a couple more vets to come in with the cash we have to throw around.
