You "only" need 25mbps of bandwidth to stream 4k, conservatively.

That's correct. You can do well in the 15-35 range.

When i see people mention the speed of downloading a movie I'm guessing they just watch on the laptop or cast to the tv. I don't like the degradation for that. But as for working from home from time to time that is nice.

I have 3 tvs. All use antenna and 2 roku. I have 20 mbs and no trouble with Netflix or streaming.

Seems some things are borderline negligible as to speeds.

So, I never thought I would say this, but if this was in my area (South Charlotte), I would probably be holding off for right now. I use Google's phone plan, Project Fi, and I love it, but the prices for Fiber aren't as good as what I was hoping they would be for the Internet/TV package.  Right now, this is what they are:

I pay $138 through Time Warner right now, after taxes.  While, I absolutely loathe their customer service, this price includes two DVRs, download speeds of around 100 Mbps, upload speeds of around 25, hundreds of channels, and a home phone.  If I had the same plan with Google, I would have to add a phone for $10 and any additional DVR is $5.  So, we're at $145 before taxes.  I know it's not much...I'm just disappointed.  Sure, 1 GB is a lot better but it does say up to 1 GB.  With the speeds I currently have, I can download a 3 hour movie in 4 minutes.  With Google, it would be less than a minute, but I'd like to think I'm patient enough to wait 4 minutes.

Another caveat I keep hearing from people is that Google's customer service will be better than TWC and that is worth the price alone.  While I don't doubt this, this is a new thing for Google, so I'd like to let other people be the guinea pig first.

For the record, they are only holding sign-ups in the Highland Creek area, which is north Charlotte.

Yea fiber is super pricy and honestly I would not want the TV.

I would rather download the movie file itself than stream 4k.. obviously because streaming causes compression and buffering and skips.. depending on the service you are using.

Getting Att Giga power next week. They are installing fiber optic lines all over Atlanta and the suburbs and they are spending way more on fiber infrastructure then Google does.

The whole agreeing to the Ad thing annoys me tho.

Dang too bad it had to be att and not google..
