Lin signs with Nets

Not with Lee walking?  I thought that would open up space for him.

I think the space was opened for Marvin. Seemed like Lin was going to be the one that was out. But I'm far from a cap expert.

Damn....I started out a Lin hater and then was completely overcome with Linsanity by the end of the year and definitely the playoffs. Good luck to him. Hope it works out. I think the back up to Kemba role was one that suited him well.

Jeremy knows the NBA can be pretty cruel. Trying to get as much as he can while he can. Don't blame him one bit. But I have a bad feeling he is going to regret this much sooner rather than later. Best of luck to him.

Yeah @RoaringRiot, all I've been reading has said that we prioritized Batum and Marvin.  Those are the two guys our FO really wanted back...  Again, with Marvin's age and the numbers that have been out there, I really don't agree with that approach, but we'll see what happens.  I would've preferred Lin over Marvin.

And @nctarheel0619, the only other PG I've heard we are interested in is Tyler Johnson, which I still would prefer Lin over unless TJ comes significantly cheaper.

On the flipside, although I know it's the business, I feel kind of shafted by Lin because I feel like our team and situation allowed him to flourish, so I would expect some added loyalty for putting him in this position.  But, I don't think we were ever in the running.  I think the NY marketing opportunities may legitimately be his reason for signing there.

Agreed. Even after his "money isn't everything" statement, ultimately it's a huge factor obviously. Regret it? I think so, but maybe that's a bit strong. He's definitely not going to find that flow and chemistry he had here. As much as I liked him I wouldn't want him as my starting PG. Can't imagine the NY fans feel differently. But Brooklyn is a mess.

I also just realized, the Nets just waived Jarrett Jack last night prior to signing Lin.  We were reportedly interested in Jack a couple years ago, so I would keep him in mind going forward as well.  He's a little older, but is similar to Lin in some facets, and likely he will come fairly cheap.

    • This was a good breakdown from Daniels.  Last year has had a lasting impact on Young. He still isn't getting the time needed from the OL - the OL we have is made to establish the run and for the run to be in play.  We get behind and have to throw all game we are doomed with this O-line. His receivers have to catch the ball when he makes a good throw to them, he can't have them dropping his good passes. Why are we running 4 slants all toward the same direction?  Why a triple option on 4th and 1? That's on the coaches. Bryce gets hurried and starts slinging the ball where it shouldn't be thrown, more study and recognition from him are needed.  Bryce doesn't step up in the pocket and throws too soon and unbalanced.  He over and under throws the ball because of it.  That's on him.  If the pocket isn't there and he can't get his base set he needs to check down or "live to fight another day." He has been thrown to the wolves and has lost his confidence.  This team doesn't have much, if any, talent and it's a cluster.  I think he can still be an NFL QB.  Maybe not a QB1 in the short term, but if he has a chance with better coaching and personnel he may be better than we are giving him credit for. I think we ruined him last year and have not fixed anything to help him this year.  If we can't run or get way behind all NFL defenses are coming after him.  Dalton has more respect and defenses didn't always sell out to get to him because he'd hit a quick slant, screen, or check down because he has the experience to know what's coming and what to do. Just my 2 cents.
    • All depends on who the backup is. Josh Allen probably would have been benched too if there were better backups than Matt Barkley and Nate peterman.
    • Where did I once say we should draft him because he's a projected Top 5 pick?   That's one of my many problems with you, your reading comprehension skills are very poor (and/or you just don't care to use your brain, one of the two).  I solely used that to point out that me pushing T-Mac isn't some absurd homerism, that at least I'm pushing someone who is deserving of a Top 5 draft pick. And despite me explaining it to you numerous times, you still seem to not grasp how QB's get placed in mock drafts vs draft grades.  They are treated entirely different in mock drafts to any other position, because of how teams generally treat them in the draft because of how important the position is. Literally any other position except QB, mock drafts generally follow draft grades with some team needs factored in.  But with QB's, draft grades are generally disregarded and they ALWAYS put a few QB's at the very top of the draft, because that's just usually what happens.  The exact same thing happened in 2022 with guys like Pickett and Willis widely being Top 10 picks in mock drafts, only for Pickett to fall to what, around 20?, and Willis going in the 2nd round (and even being the 3rd QB if I remember correctly too). The overwhelming majority of draft experts are saying there isn't a high first round grade on these QB's, but they still get mocked there because they're trying to predict how the draft will actually go. That's been my point the entire time, reaching for a QB in a bad QB draft when you have a roster as depleted of talent as ours, does not tend to work out well. And I've never said I'm not open to other players, I've very explicitly said that if a QB or DE stands out come draft time, I'm open to that discussion.  That I'd be open to Hunter as a CB but I prefer a WR over a CB at the top of the draft.  But we're also not talking about the 15th pick here where there could realistically be all sorts of possible picks to discuss.  With the first pick, there really would only be a small handful of options, T-Mac is head and shoulders above any other given our current roster and state of the franchise in general.
