Charlotte unlikely to sign Lin, after Charlotte signs Batum, and useless in the Playoffs Marvin

The Charlotte Hornets would like to re-sign free agent Jeremy Lin but are fearful of losing the point guard, according to league sources.

The Hornets' top priority is bringing back Nicolas Batum, their free-agent swingman who had a breakout season, and they also want to re-sign Marvin Williams, who is a strong presence in the locker room, sources said.

Because Charlotte doesn't own Lin's Larry Bird Rights, those deals are likely to eat up the cap space the team would need to retain Lin.

While the door to a return is not completely closed, sources said Lin will meet with three other clubs beginning at midnight ET on July 1. The meetings will be held in Lin's hometown of Palo Alto, California.

"I've played six years in the NBA; I've played on five different teams. I've played for two D-League teams -- so seven cities in six years. I'm tired of boxes, I'm tired of moving companies, and I want to find a home," Lin said in an interviewwith the World Economic Forum over the weekend.

He's gone, and I'm fine with that he's a very frustrating player. I just hope we get a decent backup PG.

Lee is gone as well, Belinelli ensured that.

Bellinelli broke his jaw in Europe, they could veto the trade.

Also, he wasn't that frustrating.  He was solid for the most part especially for a backup pg, he was very, very, good in the Playoffs.

To think Lin was a frustrating player and his role was a backup PG, and he played starter minutes is pretty fuging stupid.

We have the second most cap room in the league and we just wont be able to get better.

PG- Kemba

Sg - Batum

SF- MKG

PF - Kaminsky

C- Zeller

These are the Charlotte Hornets .

If we resign one of lin / williams / lee they they will end up being the second highest paid player on this team which is rediculous .

This team is gonna have to rely on MKG staying healthy and getting something out of our high draft picks of Zeller and Kaminsky which is scary to say the least.

Weve got the money for a premium player but instead we have to give it to a third tier player in Batum to go with our 3rd tier PG and defensive SF. Thats it that is our big 3 Kemba , Batum , MKG it is what it is.

How much longer will we do this before we blow it all up again and start over only time will tell.

I watched about 85 of our 89 games this year I'd say, and Lin was so awful to watch in a lot of them. He did win us 2 huge games against the Spurs and Cavs, I'll give him credit for that. I'm not saying he's awful, but he has horrendous court vision and falls in love with uselessly driving way too often. I don't particularly want to go on a Lin rant, but I'll be happy not watching him next season.

I didn't say backup pg was his only role, but we will be just fine if we get a decent backup pg to play behind Kemba.

Also, I highly doubt we veto that Belinelli trade. He'll be fine before training camp, and that wouldn't do us any favors around the league.

Belinelli sucks ass, so I was hoping they would veto it.  Lin played his role perfectly in our offense, was he consistent?  fugKKKKKK No.  But backup PG's, are backup PG's for that specific reason.  Because they're not consistent.  He played well above what everyone thought he was going to do.  He's solid in my book.

To be honest, I think I'd have the same priority list for our own FAs: 1. Batum 2. Williams 3. Lin.

Lin wants a starting position and I wouldn't offer him anything above 7-8 million a year. Even then, it could hurt us in competing to sign free agents..

I only hate the Belinellii move because it means no more Lee (who I am a huge fan of). And I agree on Lin, he played really well for what he was last season, I'm not trying to come off as hating him, I just can't get behind giving him a huge contract.

I hate the idea of paying williams 12-15 million per year

If we could bring him back for for his current price or like a million increase tahts fine but not double what hes getting now.

$7 million is 11.1% of a $63 million salary cap.

$12 million is 12.8% of a $94 million salary cap.

We should really start using percentage of the cap for contracts, the salary cap is incompatibly higher than it was 2 years ago, simple comparisons like that no longer work.

poo we're about to give Marvin 10+ million, and all he was good for was regular season stats.  He was so bad in the Playoffs, yeesh.

See post right above yours, but yeah him disappearing in the playoffs was pretty disappointing. Hell, the whole team was pretty trash aside from Kemba and Lee honestly (Batum was hurt so he gets a pass). It's pretty amazing we were 2 D-Wade 3s away from taking that series in retrospect.

As odd as this sounds, Frank was better than a lot of players in that series.  Big Al too.
