"Oher Steals from Panthers"

Recommended Posts

read about how the panthers struggled against the texans here

https://www.profootballfocus.com/hou-car-grades-jadeveon-clowney-making-impact-felt/

spoilers the top graded defender was clowney and he had three pressures and no sacks.  that's it.  the team had two sacks on the afternoon and one of them belonged to the best defender in the NFL.  mercy me!  cpantherking always pads his posts out with bullshit in the hopes that people won't research his claims.  so that's one less "good pass rushing team" the panthers struggled against.

how you want to count the seahawks is a matter of personal opinion.  they didn't put up massive sack numbers but they were still the number two defense in the NFL at the end of 2015 and we mounted four 80 yard drives in their house.  remmers got chewed up but that's hardly surprising to anybody plus the implication is that we have two tackles that are roughly as shitty and it's a notion i disagree with.

by the way if you put any stock into PFF i sorted the tackles by their pass blocking ratings under their old system and sorted by a certain % of snaps (i don't remember which, i think 50 or 75%) to ensure that some left tackle who stepped in against the browns or whoever for one week and had a great game wouldn't throw the rankings off

oher's overall sucks because he's an awful run blocker but he's clearly a middle of the pack pass blocker which is all anybody in this topic is saying.  nobody thinks michael oher is an all pro or anything but if you think he's awful you're just wrong.  and struggling against the best pass rushing team in the league and a probable historically significant defense doesn't mean a tackle sucks at pass blocking.

having better wide receivers on the field will also enable us to go into max protect formations more often too.  pull a second tight end out so von miller would be going up against daryl williams and remmers on the right side with stewart chipping if necessary.  then the denver secondary gets to deal with olsen, benjamin, and funchess.

he's at some beer garden with one hand in the pocket of his khakis swiping right on tinder right now

i also have reason to believe he's wearing a button down that's not tucked in with the sleeves rolled up

Exactly, it's a pile of emotional reactions(hot takes) that have minimal research or facts to back them up.  It's text book ignorance and somehow this strange viewpoint has a massive platform from which to spew. (Social media)

Unfortunately there is no incentive to be good at all.

And if he's not on tinder he's asking the drummer if the live band knows any Mars Volta songs they can play

Oher made it to the Superb Owl and a few of the Ravens did manage to get tickets to watch him play. I think we got the better end of the deal.

If he can play as well again this year, then it is money well spent. He was just what we needed last year and he seemed to be near the top of his game.

I'm not sweating it this year. They should be in Baltimore, though.

So, Oher is middle of the pack/average in pass blocking and horrible in run blocking against less than average/bottom of the barrel DE/OLBs. Got it. Thanks for supporting my argument.

How far do you think his grades will fall when the DE/OLB talent increases for him this season compared to last season? Or do you take the view that he will be better against stiffer competition?

I believe his saving grace was moving to the NFC South and having Cam Newton with a schedule that pitted him against sub par pass rushers. He would have been tore up with the Ravens schedule last season. Look at the Titans schedule from 2014. It is clear why they gave him the boot after facing the better pass rushing teams in the NFL. The Ravens schedule from 2013 also shows you why they let him go.

Thankfully, the Panthers will not face near as many pass rushing threats as the 2013 Ravens or the 2014 Titans, but the 2016 schedule will match him up against better pass rushing threats than the 2015 schedule.

I will give credit when it is due, but I will not blindly prop up players that are clear weaknesses because they are part of the Panthers. Oher is among the worst starting tackles in the NFL, and he is average at best in pass blocking when he is facing the worst pass rushers in the league.

This is about putting a team together to be the best. This is not about propping up sub par players/performances to make the Panthers look better against the average teams in the NFL. This is about championships and dynasties, about being the best of the best, and not about playoff appearances. If a player/coach/GM is holding the team back or riding on the back of others, I am going to call them out.
