Much like with Oher, I was generally pleased with last season, but I am still skeptical. If I were basing Shula's job on the Super Bowl, he'd be fired.

Hue Jackson would have been a better hire, and perhaps we'd be NFL champions right now as opposed to wannabes.

Like it or not, that's my take, and I am sticking to it.

with Hue Jackson we would have done better than 15-1 and a Super Bowl appearance?  with meh WRs and an okay OL?  Doubtful that Jackson would have yielded 16-0 and a ring.  I mean if Mike Remmers could of had just fractional better success on about 3 plays the outcome of that came could of been wildly different.   I think too often the players either do or don't make plays.  Not sure playcalling was the issue.  We lost individual matchups on about 3 plays that determined the game.

Shula deserves credit.  Yeah, he has Newton....but he allows Newton to be a stud.  A lot of OCs (perceived better X and O guys and positional gurus) would get in Cam's way IMO more than Shula does.  Shula runs a near perfect offense for Cam.  Each year he adapts subtle things 100% to Cam.   Too often OCs do it the opposite way and try to get players to do what they want/prefer.  They think them adapting the all my QBs should do X approach means success.

I will admit that there were less "OMG Shula what are you doing?" until the SuperBowl. He needs to also learn to pick up on Cam's energy, the 1st Quarter of the SuperBowl could have used more quick simple passes to use up Cam's excitement (drain that bad energy away)

I love all the quotes "the cam effect made shula" blah blah blah....

then when cam plays bad its not cam played bad its shula......Guys the two go together and they are great together....can you not see that?  if not you all are fugging blind and shouldnt be football fans at all

Shula deserves credit to be sure. Where people differ is how much.

As for Jackson, his play calling---including calling plays to put a QB in the best possible situation to succeed---is pretty much respected league wide. He is markedly better than Shula and the general opinion around the league is that he was definitely a top five, if not top three OC along with the likes of Norv Turner  Todd Haley and Josh McDaniels.

One excellent season by Shula does not equal what Jackson has done throughout his career (including in college).

As for what Jackson could have done with Cam and company we will never know, but a petfect season is not outlandish because Hue is a master at what he does with his offensive chess pieces.

Our run designs are pretty amazing, and our pass designs are...okay, Cam makes him look good there a lot of the times. I would say he's good not great overall, our run game is definitely the most unique rushing attack in the NFL, and he deserves a lot of credit for designing that.

Would have been more impressed with Shula if he was able to counter what Denver's defense was bringing in the SB.

Denver claimed Shula did nothing they hadn't already seen on tape and prepared for.

And that has been my main gripe with the man. His inability to adjust to what seems like quite innocuous and expected plays are maddening to me. If someone keeps doing something to cause you pain and you keep doing the same thing over and over, what do you expect? As long as things are going great, Shula is great, but don't let things start to go badly, dude just reminds me of a deer in the headlights. His situational play calling is still suspect in my book.
