How much of a correlation do you think there is between PFT regulars and Trump supporters?

None....more like pft and Hillary supporters.  That us why they are sitting around ready to post negative responses...they don't have jobs.

Just curious: which OL prospect or prospects would you have had DG bring in instead of Shaq, Funchess, KB, Kony, Star, or KK? I'm assuming you would have drafted a tackle in the 1st or 2nd rounds at some point, so please give us a name of someone that was available when we drafted these 6 players.

Asked of him repeatedly in the past.

And NEVER answered.

the charge is that gettleman should have rebuilt the entire offensive line and WR corps in two years basically.

i mean, that is essentially what he did of course.  4 out of 5 OL positions have been replaced and i don't think there's a hurney wideout left on the roster.  he just should have done it, uh, better somehow i guess.

I believe the 1st round should be used for defensive players unless a freakishly athletic offensive skill position player is available. The offensive players that would fall in this category are extremely rare.

Most OTs I would suggest drafting are the ones that drop to the 3rd round or later. I do not care so much for rookie OTs starting and I suggest signing OTs in free agency.

Signing Branden Albert and Jason Veldheer was what I wanted back in 2014. They would have likely cost the team $7m combined back in 2014 and $18m a year combined from 2016 to 2018. The Panthers had the ability/cap space to make this move as it was very little above what they paid for in 2014 for OTs, and would be well worth the available cap space in 2015 and 2016.

As for OTs in the draft, I believe Gettleman should have gained picks to average at least 8 picks per draft over the past 4 offs-seasons giving him an additional 8-9 picks in later rounds from 2013 to 2015. I would have used one of these picks on an OT each year that slipped to the later rounds. This is where you try to hedge risk into value with little to no loss. The Panthers would have Jordan Mills (2013), Seantrel Henderson (2014), and La'el Collins (2015) if I had my way. All of them would likely be depth if signings were made, but could definitely compete for a starting job against any of the Panthers guards or tackles. If I had to go for 2nd round OT targets over Ealy and Funchess, I would have wanted Jack Mewhort and Jake Fisher. If you look at what was given up for Funchess, the Panthers could have Jake Fisher, Stefon Diggs, and La'el Collins for the same value in the 2015 draft. There may have been others, but those are the players I wanted the Panthers to target in those drafts. Ealy was a player I wanted the Panthers to pass over, and I did target Funchess, but not at the value the Panthers gave up for him.

Out of curiosity, the teams who did draft all those guys you say we should have drafted...

Where did they finish in the playoffs last year?

Where did we?

Those teams did not have the combination of Newton/Olsen and Kuechly/Davis/Norman on both sides of the ball.

The question to ask is how would Miller/Ware do against Albert/Veldheer instead of Oher/Remmers? How much extra time would Newton have in the pocket throughout the season? Even if it is just an extra 0.3 to 0.5 second on average for the QB in the pocket, then is that worth an extra $8m to $10m per season? I believe so.

We all know Newton makes his OTs look better than they are throughout the season. We also know that both Albert and Veldheer make their respective QBs look better than they are because of the additional protection/time given to those QBs.

Spend the money to make your great players even better. That cash is not going to do the team any good collecting dust in the safe when cap space is available.

And how much salary cap money would we have had for other things had we blown it on an overpriced tackle market?

This whole 'blow everything you've got on an annual basis' approach has been tried. It got us a few playoff appearances in eleven years and a load of mediocre seasons. But hey, you were happier back then, right?

The last three years, we've won our division and steadily improved, and that shows no signs of stopping. That makes the rest of us happy even if it rains on your parade.

I know you're hoping this is the year we fail big time so you can look smart, but I got a feeling you're gonna be disappointed again.

At this point, you should probably just go ahead and jump ship to the Seahawks or the Saints. You make a pretty sh--ty Panther fan anyway.

PFT is to dumbass low info football fans as a pool of stagnant water is to mosquitos.  think of the dumbest, loudest cowboys fan you've ever met; i'm talking about the guy who proclaims romo the best quarterback in the NFL, answers any back-talk with "FIVE RANGS", and thinks the cowboys have the best coach, best owner, and best players at every position. that's your average PFT commenter.

if there's an article having even the slightest thing to do with the panthers it's really unusual if there isn't a cam fumble joke within the first ten replies.  i'm convinced that there are trolls who sit on that site all day long and wait for something about the panthers to appear to post their boilerplate.  articles having anything to do with tom brady or the patriots get a similar treatment.

I learned a long time ago not to bother reading the PFT comments for this very reason.

In 2014, Albert/Veldheer would have hit the cap for $7m. Bell/Chandler/Remmers hit the Panthers cap for $5m.

In 2016, the Panthers will spend $8m on Oher/Remmers. Albert/Veldheer will cost 18m.

The Panthers are currently around $130m with their team salary. The cap is $158m, and the Panthers must spend at least $140m under CBA rules. So, all these arguments of not spending benefits the Panthers is just plain dumb. Every team has to spend at least 89% of their salary cap figure. The actual goal needs to be around 98% of the cap spent every year to maximize value/talent for a team.

The Panthers could have signed Norman for his market value with an $8m cap hit and still had to spend more money to satisfy the minimum spending limit. So, yes the OT position could have easily been remedied and the 2013 cap strapped year is little to no excuse.

Spend more money. Cap be damned. Oh, and forget extending stars like Cam and Luke. We need to overpay for a guy like Branden Albert instead.

And heck, how are we supposed to accomplish any of this given that your phony inside sources tell you everyone hates our GM and no one wants to play for us anyway?

Seriously, what team are you actually cheering for? It sure as hell isnt the Panthers.

Well, I finally found something that I 100 percent agree with @CPantherKing on, and that's the belief that we should have made a run at Jared Veldheer. We could have afforded Veldheer, particularly if we hadn't put so many resources into renting Hardy for a year.

It's way past time to stop dwelling on moves that could have been made however. We are where we are, and notwithstanding differences in opinion on personnel, the Panthers have had some good seasons the past couple of years. All we can do is speculate on what-could-have-beens, which of course means we could have done worse or better. No one, at least from what I know, can tell with any genuineness that they know how we would have ended up either way, so speculating one way or another is wasted energy in my opinion.

How much money was available to spend on free agents in 2014?

If we had spent it on Albert/Veldheer, who would not have been signed?  Who would not have been re-signed?  Who would not have been extended?

Doesn't matter because it was just a player Gettleman wanted anyway. None of them are any good.

(he has it on good authority from his phony sources)
