We hit a homerun with him. He along with Cam have changed our culture completely

Not taking anything away from RR/Cam/Luke/the team leaders, but judging by the timing of the changes I'd say that Gettleman's arrival sure hasn't hurt either.

Well deserved. It has been a journey but he has turned out to be a great coach who represents the organization in an outstanding manner.

And the reason he's a great coach is because he self-analyzes.  He looks for his faults, and figures out how to improve in those areas.  It's the same reason a QB like Cam becomes great, but a guy like Jay Cutler lingers in mediocrity.  Guys that think they already have it figured out or are too stubborn or prideful to change will always be the underachievers in life, but those that never sit on their laurels and always work to improve will end up in the promised land.

That is one of the things I really like about him. It is refreshing.

I like Chris Wesseling's write up about this at NFL.com.   He seems to have a good pulse on the Panthers:

Quote

Although Rivera is among the NFL's highest-paid coaches, he's a relative bargain compared to NFC South rival Sean Payton, who recently signed a five-year extension worth more than $8 million annually.

This is Rivera's second extension since entering the 2013 season on the hot seat and reaching an aggressive football epiphany that turned his head coaching career around.

Despite losing No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin in August of last year, the Panthers became just the fourth team in NFL history to win 14 consecutive games to start a season. Going back to December of 2014, Rivera has led Carolina to 22 wins in 25 games.

Prior to the 2014 season, no NFC South outfit had ever won back-to-back division titles. Rivera's Panthers have now won the division crown for three consecutive years.

Whereas schisms divide front offices in other cities, Rivera works hand-in-glove with the shrewd Gettleman to turn under-the-radar free agents and afterthought rookies into key contributors.

Beyond his reputation as one of the game's premier defensive strategists, Rivera deserves credit for compiling a top-notch coaching staff, featuring defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and the offensive line tandem of John Matsko and Ray Brown.

The coaching awards and contract extensions are testament to how far Rivera has come since beginning his Panthers stint with a 13-21 record and a penchant for letting close games slip away. Three years later, he is deservedly acknowledged as one of the best in the business.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
