With us sticking by him, after all the bull poo with other teams literally not wanting him.  Maybe Hill takes a pay cut to come back here if he plays well this season.  Who knows?

I think we're getting way out in front of ourselves right now. He has to prove his mettle first. I am fairly confident that with the evolution of Newton's game last year, and specifically his willingness to share the wealth, I don't necessarily believe that anyone, much less Hill, is going to have the opportunity to produce in such a way that will make teams want to overpay for their services. I do believe however that if Hill plays well, he may get some offers that won't be too far and above what the Panthers will offer him, and that the goodwill and atmosphere here will make all the difference.

We will see.

No Brown?  Dude ran amazing routes last year and got constantly open.

Not hating on brown. Ran great routes and was a cog on conversion downs. Im a fan of brown. But we have certain roles on this team. I think Byrd can fill the role of philly.

I was torn on the last WR spot between ginn and brown. I think byrd could play both roles with his quicknes and downfield speed. My prediction is that philly or ginn wont be on the roster but Byrd will be.

And im not a philly pessimist. Im a Byrd optimist and looking at the current roles on our offense. Lots of philly butthurt in this thread!

Edit. Its my prediction. Maybe its suprising for some. But there are suprising cuts every year and this is what i got.

Pie for being a Byrd optimist.

If he was from any other college outside the Carolinas no way anyone here would be betting on him beating out Philly.

I don't believe that where he played in college has anything to do with it for most fans. Sure, him being a product of South Carolina is a cherry on top for some, but Byrd's attitude, effort and speed, as well as reports of his improvement, have everything to do with the excitement surrounding him.

FWIW, I know that most people are probably thinking that Byrd is Philly's main competition, but Philly is going to have to prove his worth amid the return of Benjamin, the rise of Funchess, the enigma of Ginn, and the emergence of everyone else that is motivated to make him expendable. Moreover, don't overlook the fact that Philly was tried as a returner last year, as are Byrd and Hill this year, and he wasn't successful. If Byrd and/or Hill prove to be effective as kick returners, then that may affect the balance of stock at the position as well.  Sure Brown made a few plays last year, especially late, but he also disappeared for stretches and was not very efficient given his snaps on the field.

Lastly, Byrd was straight up more impressive last preseason than Brown. I am fairly sure that his lack of experience and underdeveloped frame was probably one of the main reasons that he didn't usurp Philly last year. This year may be a different story.

Pre-season being the key word.

Philly roasted talib in the superbowl.

Philly had a terrible preseason last year but was solid all year last year. Only 1 drop all year and 2+ catches in all but 3 games. Only way I can see Byrd sticking around is as a KR/PR or if Hill / Bersin / Brown are terrible in training camp / preseason.

He sure did, amid being hurt again, but I doubt that the coaches will be basing his roster position on one game.  I am not in the Philly-is-safe camp. His level of play left a lot to be desired last season, and as such he can't take Byrd or any of the other motivated receivers for granted. The fact is that Philly's role is likely going to diminish greatly whether or not he's on the roster in September.

Hill would have been competition for a starting spot?  I suppose with KB injured, and funchess a raw rookie, all he had to do was be as competent as Ginn.

At this point, KB & Fun has to be the starters.

Ginn is a vet with speed.

So that puts hill at 4th, assuming he has roles on special teams. I'm sure hell rotate in above Ginn, or even with Ginn,  for certain plays.

That leaves Brown & Byrd.

As much as I have hope for Byrd, I believe Brown is a lock as a Panther this year.

This is assuming all that we are hearing about Hill, actually translates into games.

The proof will be in the pudding.

Like my mother-in-law used to tell my wife, "What you can't see makes a whole 'nother world."
