Gettledaddy says agents can't scare him

"I'd like to think agents have figured out they can't scare me; they can't squeeze me," Gettleman told Black and Blue Review on Wednesday. "I'm not going to panic. It's a waste of time."

Take what you will from that, but I think it says a lot considering the situation.

He's not going to pay any player anything more than what he thinks they are worth to the team.  And other teams players are NOT part of that calculation.

"But the Eagles paid Cox a billllllllllllllllllion dollars!"

"Nice!  I guess you want to play for the Eagles?"

I am not gonna lie. When I saw this I grinned.

If players are going to play here, they are gonna have to do it within fitting with Getty's budget. It's that simple, and it applies to everyone. The good thing is, at least in my mind, is that he drafts/acquires players that makes even the best players expendable.

Keep hoping and praying.

I think we have three or four guys on here who regularly pray that prayer.

"Lord, please let the team fail this season so I can look smart for once instead of looking like an absolute moron yet again."

What a great piece of reporting by Bill Voth.  Really worth reading the whole piece.   It's pretty amazing Gettleman would take the time for this.

A few quotes that caught my eye:

Quote

"The biggest responsibility I have is putting a value on a player. You value the player — this is what he's worth, and that's where it is," he said. "You can't shop like a drunken sailor, and we're not going to."

Most GMs care about how their decisions now could affect the rest of their career. At 65, this is Gettleman's last job. He'll either win big or go down with his philosophies. Either way, the role isn't only about what he can do today to win a Super Bowl.

"I'm on that tightrope and I constantly have to look at the big picture. I can't make decisions sitting down in the weeds. I have to get way up here," Gettleman said, raising his left hand. "You get down in the weeds, you're going to make mistakes.

"I've seen too many mistakes made because people were afraid and people panicked."

I hadn't thought about the freedom Gettleman has in that he's not worried about his next job.  He's working on building a legacy, certainly, but he doesn't have to worry about building a resume.

I am still not celebrating this aspect of Gettlemen yet....

all GM's have flaws.  Dave's are still relatively unknown.  Dave's ego could come up down the road and cause issues IMO....there are some small red flags on that
