What home security system do you use?

There have been some break ins in the neighborhood and this morning I awoke to find a porch chair positioned perfectly so that the person sitting would be looking straight through the vertical glass window beside our front door.  With my wife and 6 year old in the house, I cant go any longer without a security system.

Which one do you use?  Has it been a good/worthwhile experience?

We have TWC Home and it seems to work pretty well.  I mean, it wouldn't keep a determined/knowledgeable thief out but it'll keep nosy neighbors and the casual theif out.

I figure at the least they would go on to the next house without signs of an alarm and if someone broke in at night it would awaken me also.

Yea, this is basically just to make a loud noise if the door is busted in.

I have CPI because I thought there was a small chance that Luke would come out to install it.... Didn't happen :(

Seriously though, after a few hiccups getting it activated (the broken glass alarm would go off at the sound of a pin drop), I haven't had any issues.  We took over the previous homeowner's account and I think it was the right call.  We pay $39.99/month.  That's for three door alarms and a glass break alarm.  Plus, you get the added benefit of having the CPI app.

I haven't had any experience with the other systems so I can't compare them to CPI.

I can't read the whole thread since I still have WilmyWood blocked for some reason, but...

I don't have a home security system other than things like thomas96 posted...

If I were going to do an electronic system, the best thing is to buy your own panel, sensors, etc. and install it yourself. You don't need fancy camera monitors and all that, and you don't have to pay people to monitor it. You can setup autodial functions to call several numbers in the event of a trigger, and that is really all you need.

I have a dog and a cpi sign

I think that's probably all you need. Just make your house look and sound less burglar-friendly. We've had an issue with daytime break-ins nearby; thieves basically looking for an empty house to loot. I used to keep my dog in our bedroom but I've started leaving her out so she can be right there at the door barking. My dog sounds like 90 pounds of death but she is more like 60 pounds of kisses.

I personally think these two options are better

1.  a good sized barking dog

2.  Smith and Wesson

I have ADT.  Basically it would limit the time a burglar would have in my house, not prevent him from entering.

A 95lb Rottie/Husky/Dobie/St. Bernard mix and an 80lb Lab/Pit mix.

The little guy is the warning; the big guy doesn't say poo, he's the enforcer.

The Benelli tactical shotgun and the Beretta's are stashed and can be in hand in short order, but that's not my first choice.

I got CPI...  2 Cameras inside and outside.  I like CPI cause they will call your ass out.  I also installed motion lights around my house in case someone want to peak inside at night.  But by far the best security I ever had was 100lbs German shepherd...  Even soliciting stopped.
