No Pass Rush

Biggest reason why we lost the game is that we couldn't generate any pass rush. I didn't see much blitzing out there which I think we should have done especially on 3rd down.

I blame this loss on poor coaching defensively. The zone was supposed to slow down the Falcons and prevent big plays but it allowed Matt Ryan to pick us apart. Even though the stats don't show, one third down conversion after another just killed us.

I'm really losing confidence in this coaching staff and probably the players are too. They looked content with keeping this one close and didn't have the killer instinct to go for the kill.

We also missed Chris Harris. We need some big hits in the secondary.

I love how The Panthers hire a new DC and they're still running the same lame ass vanilla D they ran last season. Why in the hell are the CB's still playing 10-15 yds off the WR. Even when The Falcons were near the endzone the CB's were still playing off. The Panthers need to learn how disguise their blitzes a lil better. God I wish we had Rex Ryan for our D coordinator lol.

The D handled the run pretty well, mainly due to the speed of the linebackers and the ability of the secondary to play the run. Against the pass though we were destroyed. The front 4 simply can't generate any pressure - and that includes Peppers - he doesn't require a double team, so the 'lesser' players on the D-line are never put in favorable matchups.

We basically play a cover 2 without actually causing the QB to rush his throws, resulting in the holes in the zones being exploited. It really is frustrating to watch.

    • Team is dangerous right now, all four lines are contributing and the speed at which the guys play at is tremendous.
    • And every nfl player wannabe tries to up their draft position through things like the combine and theyre all basically lying though those drills theyve practiced hundreds of times that have little bearing on if theyre a good football player. The pro days are even worse. All you have to do is dupe 1 team. Is it right? No. But until teams put more emphasis on college tape vs. What they did in shorts with no defense it'll happen every year. I doubt there is a single player that wouldn't try anything to up their draft prospects.  Young had years of tape and that shouldve been what the decision was based on. Not a scale and throwing in shorts.  ( btw I think the combine and pro days are 90% a waste of time) Young has it financially made already. It's up to him if he wants to be a good football player too. I think the benching was the best thing that could've happened to him. It remains to be seen if it was enough
    • This.  Honest introspection on his behalf would have seen that size and strength were his biggest weaknesses. He looks no different. With the programs in the NFL, he could have come back to camp 10 lbs of muscle heavier. Easily. If had done so, it would have been reported on. It would have been the hottest story…. But we never saw anything of the sort, so it probably never happened.  He showed improvement this last game, likely from Andy’s tutelage. He has to show something VERY special to close the season out to change my thinking on him… like 4 game winning streak with a clutch 4th quarter comeback. Then maybe.
