Destiny: Rise of Iron

The main campaign is easy to solo, and I kind of prefer that.  I'd suggest finding a clan for players.  I'm in Safe Gamers, a sizable clan on both consoles which caters to families and people who are tired of shooter bros and their language.

I've also spent a lot of time in a Dad's of Destiny clan, which was great.  There are a billion clans.

For general lfg needs, there is the100.io, destiny lfg .com and .net. Bungie added a better lfg setting to the forums, which is accessible through the destiny companion app.

Finally, as you get to 40, here are some tips to help to along.

1. Always visit the cryptarch with your highest light gear when you decode them. Also do it one at a time if you get an upgrade.

2. Once you hit 240 light, start doing your daily story and crucible missions for marks. Those will allow you to buy gear from the vendor's.

3. Max out your three subclasses.  It's tedious, but do it.  Do your daily bounties to help with that and with #4!

4. Rank up factions, and join either the New Monarchy, Future War Cult or Dead Orbit.  After rank 3, all factions will give you gear at ranks.

5. Save up your weapon and armor parts....trust me!

6. Change things up to keep the game interesting because Destiny is a grind. To level gear, get gear, get the right rewards requires the grind.

EDIT:  Thought of a few more things.

7.  At 40, start paying attention to the perks.  The stat cap is 300, which will maximize the cool downs on your super (INT), grenade (DISC), and melee (STR).  On my titan, I stack INT and DISC as much as possible.  Along with the stats, gear as the various weapons and armor perks.  The two most important are your reloads and extra ammo.  They are very helpful in making things easier.

8.  Strange Coins?  Save those puppies!  Each Friday, Xur, the tentacle faced douche-canoe from outter space arrives in the Tower to bring toys and tears!  This is the easiest  way to get exotic items.  Armor costs 13 and weapons more (23 primary, 17 secondardy, and 13 for Heavy - or something like that!).  It's a great way to get some good gear to push your light up.  And exotics can be really useful, like the Celesital Nighthawk for Gunslingers, or just fun the the Dragon's Breath.  He also sells the Three of Coins.  Use them when you face ultras (Think strike bosses, or the final taken bosses in patrol) for a chance at an exotic!

9.  Once you start getting into the 260s and 280s, you can start to have some fun in heroic strikes and the 41 Prison of Elders.  Good loot and fun can be had there with the right groups.

10.  Take breaks!  Unless your a helpless fool like me, take breaks from the game to keep it fresh.  I enjoy the repetitive grind of the game.  I'm weird (or a sheep...).  Stuff will change infrequently so there's nothing wrong with playing other games and having fun.  You won't miss much!

Related to the stream last week:  Anyone else watch it?  See anything worth mentioning?

I love the redo of the Cosmodrome!  Also, the SIVA plants are interesting.  I can't wait to see how it works in September!

OK so the way the game rewards gears level ( referred to as light) is now based on your current light.  So at my highest light, I'm 319. I do a strike and get some blue engrams and even a purple!  As I open them, some will be like 274(crypt-dick!), but there is a better chance of getting a higher light level. I open them one at a time Incase I get a better level item.

So the factions are completely optional but ranks can yield good gear.  Each faction's armor has different stats and the guns have different appearances. You spend 2500 glimmer to pledge to a faction, and each activity (bounty, PvP, strike etc) will award faction rep with your regular vanguard or crucible rep.  After rank 3, you start getting package rewards.  Also, you can level them up through motes of light.

I'm rocking FWC on my Titan (int/disc). They are in the hanger, up stairs. Dead Orbit on my neglected hunter,(across from the vanguard weapon robot in the hanger) and New Monarch on my Warlock(in the speaker's area, to the left as soon as you get in there).

Oh and now that you're 40, get to work on your gunsmith rep!  Do the easy PvE ones like headshots and Hive.  I'll use either the war mind mission from TBD, or we've woken the hive.  Just don't complete either activity, and you'll keep the check point.

Like, what I like to do is grab the field est weapons, boot up the siege of he warmind, do the gun challenges, then jump off the side or back out insteadof killing the knight inside the room.  I'd you use the moon mission, just leave a few enemies alive.

It makes farming the rep pretty easy.  At rank 3. Not only do you start getting rep packages, but you get your first easy weapon quest: still piercer for the hunters,. Good PvP sniper.  Then after that you get an exotic quest, ace of spades for the hunter. With an ammo buff, it's a good hand cannon.  At level dive you get another exotic quest, I'm stuck on the PvP kills on it (mostly because I have better things to do!).

But the gun smith can be really good for getting high light level guns.  Also, you can buy packages from the gun smith every Wednesday, the guns that come out are 280, so it's another easy way to get your light up.  You have until 5am Sunday morning to place your orders.  They will come back on Wednesday (aka Armada, not the gym one!).

Here's a good video which shows how the gunsmith works:

So anyone in the market for a grim citizen or longbow? It's mayhem clash week! Also, if you need to do any kill quests, it's a great week (sword kills, chaperone quest).  It's also damn fun!

In RoI news, soon shaders will work on class items again!!! This has me very excited!

Oh, Game Informer is doing another exposé on the big Destiny expansion... OMG, pants tight!

The trailer is there where we get more looks at the new areas and the new crucible game mode!

(No this is really the good link!)

=)

EDIT:  So how about those new bad ass artifacts?  I want the reflection of missiles, and the sprint cool down.  Also, the Melee/Mind Control one sounds silly fun.

As much as I don't want to go back to work (I'm a teacher!), but man, between Rise of Iron and the Panthers, I'm so effin pumped!

So the Crucible live stream just concluded...

First of, private matches are free to all current gen console owners! So if you still have an old destiny disc lying around, you can play!

They showed a vidoc at the start which showed off the awesome looking armor sets and mods...holy poo!

So, in my particular fanboy opinion, Rise of Iron is going to make me super happy, and might be something to check out if you fell off the Destiny wagon.

EDIT:  So here is the reveal stream today:

https://www.twitch.tv/bungie

Now, my thoughts on the stream and vidoc (without the girlish giggles!)

1. I am SO PUMPED UP for the Private Games!  I'm a scrub (.9-1.1 k/d) in PVP, and the ability to work on my game alone, or even just explore the maps to look for easter eggs is awesome!

2. In the vidoc there were some bits of the new cut scenes with the Iron Lords.  They were so bad ass they didn't wear helmets!  While maybe it's not a massive campaign, it does look like it COULD be pretty good from a story perspective.

3. The New Gear!  They showed the Iron Lord, Iron Banner and Trials gear, and I am so insane for the Titan armor!  I will poorly grind Trials just to get those armor pieces!  They look so cool!

4. The Plaguelands/Arena/Enemies - Look extremely cool!  Just new stuff!

5.  The Raid and the Strike look like completely different ideas from the past of Destiny.  Looks like the Death Zambonie is going to follow you around.  Then the Ogre Eye/Laser while being chased by a blind ogre...Man this could be really fun!

So yeah, I'm nerding out!  I love it!

I can confirm that IB has awesome loot again.  I did 9 matches yesterday. I got a chest, hand cannon and a shotgun.  That's not counting the blues and Strange Coins.

I also got 7 wins yesterday for that weekly bounty.
