the actual weapons had a wood wrap around the interior tube rather than a solid piece of wood, but creating a formed wooden shell like that would be even more difficult than cutting a solid piece of wood

Can i borrow your watch philly? Because the time you have to do all these projects makes me think my watch is wrong. Maybe i have more time than i realize and i veg more than i should.

If you start building an ark we are in trouble.

technically not until december, but i'd like to get it done over the summer. i'm building the rest of the parts now but i can't really do anything with them until i get the wood piece.

You could try a fabrication company to see if they have any round steel that would fit that size. Take it home, get out the grinder with a metal disc, and cut yourself however many plugs you need. A little JB weld around the inside, pop in the plugs, run a solder around the gap if it shows to badly, then polish it up and you're done. Also, you can try an irrigation or plumbing supply store, for the tube you need for your model.

I was thinking JB weld myself - you could just fill the grenades with sawdust or what ever to give a dab of JB something to rest against while it sets up and file and sand off the excess - would save a bunch of work fitting a piece of steel or what ever and youre going to paint them anyway - you could probably get away with just using bondo - cheaper than JB and easier to sand.
