Let me break this down for people that are bitching at Sam Mills Fan:

6) We have major injuries every single freakin year (except last year). .

Yea they should rip peoples Achilles and break ankles in the off season to get the body immune to this sort of stuff.

We are not in the five worst teams, we have one of the five worst gameplans and schemes at this point, but you are side stepping. I asked you are we going to have the worst record in the NFL? That was my point and you tried to argue that and still wont give a direct answer.

Whether we have THE worst team or one of the worst teams is irrelevant. We're giving away an excellent draft pick either way.

And do I think we may end up with the worst record in the league? We have no defense and one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league, yet the second-toughest schedule. Having the worst record in the league at the end of the year isn't out of the question.

I know, but you challenged my post and now taking this off topic. Hurney up and get your rant out of you please. Go back and reread from where you quoted what I said, look and see what I quoted.

for what tho? there arent too many people defending Fox or Hurney on here. just dumb really.

There are a few people who think keeping Fox and Hurney is for the best simply because of what they have done in the past compared to what we had originally done in the past before they arrived. It's like talent had nothing to do with it or anything, and even though Fox may have had a few good years, his style is a little too old fashioned for many of us Panther fans to handle for much longer.

I don't think the fans are the reason the team is struggling, but I agree that many of them, TOO MANY of them, are fair-weather fans at best. My term for them is the "wine and cheese crowd". I'll take the Dog Pound or Raider Nation or the Terrible Towels mentality anyday! It hurts me, HURTS, to see the sheer number of fans from other teams when they play here. Eagles fans outnumbered ours last week, as do the Steelers, Cowboys, Redskins, Packers, and several others when they show up. That is unsat! I drive the better part of 700 miles round trip for home games, and I if could get someone to hire me in Charlotte, I'd move there in a heartbeat, I LOVE the town! (By the way, I be college edumacated, and can sometimes spell and count, so if anyone's hiring, I'd appreciate a buzz about that! Thanks).

I can understand some aspects about why no FAs' were signed after last season, we had 20 of 22 starters returning, a new DC, and the Peppers situation dragged on for far too long. I fear we are facing a rebuilding, and I don't know if the present bunch calling the shots can pull that off. We DO have some players on both sides of the ball that I don't want to lose, but if we have to 'build' to a playoff appearance every few years or so, they just may be likely to walk. If we DO rebuild, I say rebuild everywhere, front office and staffs as well as players.

Fire Fox? Maybe, and I'm thinking of purchasing a ticket for that bandwagon.

Fire Hurney? No way in hell. He is a genius when it comes to getting the team in under cap (this year excluded). He has done well in free agency, and the draft, and makes difficult cuts when he has to. Keep Hurney.

Agreed

not sure how this thing turned into a fire Charlotte post, but back to Fox and Hurney, this is a tough call for me. 0-2 will make alot of fans toe the edge of the bridge. In fact, I am sure my wife has hid all knives in the house. However, we were 12-4 last year. It is hard to believe we fire our entire front office 1 year after that.

Now do I think last year is a reason to keep them around, not really. I can go either way on this one. I more favor keeping Fox and dumping Hurney. The original point about the state of the team is correct. The off season beginning with the trade of next years 1st round pick has been a disaster. The fact is that Hurney has failed to address the QB situation and the WR/TE situation. He has failed to sign anyone servicable at returning punts and our lack of depth is showing on special teams. The o-line is solid but without any subs and the d-line is playing a bunch of subs.

Over the past 5 years the Panthers are 2nd among NFC teams in wins, so I favor keeping Fox, but because of the state of the team and its makeup, I favor kicking Hurney.

I'm just the opposite. Fox needs to go, but Hurney has done a decent job as GM. We've drafted some good players, and Hurney appears to do a good job managing the cap. One could make an argument that we had a bad offseason, but we've all read that the team philosophy is to keep its core players, and Hurney was doing everything to work within that philosophy. It's a mystery why we haven't acquired a young QB that will eventually replace Jake, but I truly believe this is more of what John Fox wants, more than Hurney, as Fox prefers "game managers" to actual talent at that position.

On the other hand, the play on the field has been declining since the middle of last season, particulary on defense and special teams, and there's no evidence that significant improvement will be made before the bye week or beyond. Based on the fact that our team is SUPPOSED to be strong in both areas, this is a major concern. Overall, we've never played consistent enough to garner back-to-back winning seasons. Sometimes we look like we can beat anybody (last year's Monday nighter against TB), and other times we look totally unprepared to play and inept (Arizona and Philly). We're never consistent.

Our playcalling is vanilla and ultra-conservative on both sides of the ball (though our offense looked better yesterday). On offense, our passing game is woefully underdeveloped, as we still don't use our TE and RB effectively enough to offset our #1 threat @ WR (Smith). The bend-don't-break style of defense is clearly not working and our run defense is very suspect, especially now with the injuries/inexperience on the DL. And I have no idea how the ST coach has kept his job this long.

A bigger concern IMOl, this team lacks the toughness and attitude that consistently good teams like the Steelers, Ravens and Patriots have. These are teams you know will bring their A game and you know what you're going to get from them when they step on the field. The Panthers? Offense, defense, special teams - we don't know what to expect. We don't know if good or bad Jake will show up to singlehandly lose a game. We don't know whether the defense will man up, play lights out or sit back in zone and get picked apart all game long. We don't know whether the ST will be good or whether they'll allow long returns and blocked punts (on second thought, I guess we know they'll be bad more often than not).

All in all, something has to change. Maybe the players are no longer buying into "Foxball". Maybe he's no longer able to motive the team as he did when he first came here. Whatever the problem is, it starts with coaching IMO.

    • It absolutely is on him for doing it and I'd wager he used a good bit of that psychology major to help him through interviews because he could read people better than most. The Panthers should have recognized it for what it was, hell, we all did, but you can't absolve him just because everyone else does it.    38 Million guaranteed.
    • No Ikem vs the best pass rushing team in the NFL?  With no pocket for Bryce to step in to because of arguably the best interior DL in the NFL, Dexter Lawrence? Giants win comfortably IMO.  Look at how hype the Panthers were to win last week.  That was enough for them. The Panthers have struggled against mobile QBs this year too.  Guys who can extend the play.  Bo Nix, Marcus Mariota, Caleb Williams.  Panthers have struggled against all QBs this year to be honest, but those guys in particular did the best statistically.  Expect a big game from Danny Dimes, Nabers, and Tyrone.
    • And where did anyone say they were? I’m saying that’s where the comp comes from. I agree they are different. No two QBs are the same even that Nebraska QB is different than Mahomes no matter how hard he tries…
