~~The official FIRE JOHN FOX AND MARTY HURNEY thread~~

not sure how this thing turned into a fire Charlotte post, but back to Fox and Hurney, this is a tough call for me. 0-2 will make alot of fans toe the edge of the bridge. In fact, I am sure my wife has hid all knives in the house. However, we were 12-4 last year. It is hard to believe we fire our entire front office 1 year after that.

Now do I think last year is a reason to keep them around, not really. I can go either way on this one. I more favor keeping Fox and dumping Hurney. The original point about the state of the team is correct. The off season beginning with the trade of next years 1st round pick has been a disaster. The fact is that Hurney has failed to address the QB situation and the WR/TE situation. He has failed to sign anyone servicable at returning punts and our lack of depth is showing on special teams. The o-line is solid but without any subs and the d-line is playing a bunch of subs.

Over the past 5 years the Panthers are 2nd among NFC teams in wins, so I favor keeping Fox, but because of the state of the team and its makeup, I favor kicking Hurney.

We shouldn't put much stock into the past 5 years thing. Assuming that this crap continues and we don't sniff the playoffs, this will be the fourth straight season where we don't win a single playoff game. And the third out of four years where we finished the regular season without a winning record.

I think the problem most are begining to see is there doesnt appear to be a way out of this current situation. With massive issues at multiple coaching positions, player positions, players age, player disire the future appears bleak.

I really really like Fox, hardly ever agree with his scheme but I believe he is a good coach. The true lack is in players to play this god awful scheme. Its easy to play with pep in his younger years atleast effort was there (see him following mcnabb down and not catching him this year as opposed to coming accross the field to catch plummer at endzone in o5?) Best dt in league at time Jenkins, above avearage end rucker and dt buck. WIth a great cover mlb morgan.

Just appears to be so many holes with limited funds/draft picks too get yourself out of this hole. Sad sad state of affairs.

I don't know if I would put much stock into the team having limited funds. Because of the cap this season, you're right. However, if next year is uncapped, that will help Cowher or whoever the next coach is immensely even without a first round pick. We know that Richardson spends money when he needs to.

Richardson need to let go of Fox NOW, cause this wont get any better and we need a spark NOW

Jeff becomes HC/OC which gives him full control over the offense, Meeks still DC which gives him full control over the defense, and tell Crossman step his poo the hell up. Judge how they do for the rest of the year, then we move on from there

Anyone agree?

Sorry but this wont happen. Fox will use the injury excuse yet again to Richardson as to why we will have a poor record at the end of the year. Then if we finish 9-7 or above next season, he'll be here another year to see if he can duplicate it. If we finish with a poor record in 2011, he'll be given another chance to see if he can turn it around in 2012 or not. He won't be fired till he has back to back losing seasons because mediocrity is acceptable here.

Fire Fox? Maybe, and I'm thinking of purchasing a ticket for that bandwagon.

Fire Hurney? No way in hell. He is a genius when it comes to getting the team in under cap (this year excluded). He has done well in free agency, and the draft, and makes difficult cuts when he has to. Keep Hurney.

Let me break this down for people that are bitching at Sam Mills Fan:

1) We are staring 0-3 in the face right now (aka no playoffs this year)

2) We have NO FIRST ROUND PICKS in a year where we could have the highest pick since Fox/Hurney have been here

3) They gave an old ass mediocre QB a FORTY MILLION DOLLAR EXTENSION!

4) They paid a DE 18 million bucks b/c he is a difference maker. Yet we have given up 66 points in our first two games

5) DANNY EFFING CROSSMAN IS STILL ON OUR COACHING STAFF EVEN THOUGH OUR KICK COVERAGE HAS BEEN TERRIBLE FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS!

6) We have major injuries every single freakin year (except last year). That has to do with conditioning and practice methods.

7) While most teams are moving AWAY from the Tampa 2 we are going TO the Tampa 2.

and finally

8) Bill Cowher wants to get back into coaching and one of his former players (Jerome Bettis) is lobbying for him to come to Carolina.

We are a mediocre team after going 12-4 and there is really only one injury to speak of that is worth mentioning. Not having Kemo hurts but most teams get over the fact that ONE of their players is injured

This is the year that we get a new regime in here. IF a team goes from 12-4 to out of the playoffs it is NOT anyone's fault but the HC. For sh*ts sake Schottenheimer got fired after his team went effing 14-2! Fox has had 7 years to get something done here and we have one NFC championship to show for it.

    • Bryce put it in a spot only his guy could get it only for David Moore to drop it. T_T Tremble and Horn both struggled yesterday and that killed me since they're two of my favourite players. Tommy knows he has to come down with this one. Folks were understandably saying that JT would've caught that had he not gotten hurt a few plays earlier. The more I look at this play, the more I think that Bryce made the right decision throwing it out the back of the endzone. He could have tried to laser it in to Thielen, but that safety is lurking awfully close inside. Insuring the field goal here after a 44sec drive to end the half was the right move.
    • Except Bryce was the main reason we were in it
    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
