~~The official FIRE JOHN FOX AND MARTY HURNEY thread~~

The thought of having Cowher next year.. that would be awesome. I'd love a coach that actually would get pissed once in a while, rather than the old "it is what it is" attitude. As a player, you know you don't want to fug up with the chin watching you.

I agree with a large portion of the OP. At least we showed some improvement today..which was pretty much Jake Delhomme not sucking ass.

I believe John Fox himself knows this team cannot make playoff this season and he will be caned as soon as the season is over if not earlier. The only question I care about this team is how many wins they can get. I hope it won't be a huge goose egg.

I am in complete agreement. John Fox should be caned. Hurney and Delhomme as well.

not sure how this thing turned into a fire Charlotte post, but back to Fox and Hurney, this is a tough call for me. 0-2 will make alot of fans toe the edge of the bridge. In fact, I am sure my wife has hid all knives in the house. However, we were 12-4 last year. It is hard to believe we fire our entire front office 1 year after that.

Now do I think last year is a reason to keep them around, not really. I can go either way on this one. I more favor keeping Fox and dumping Hurney. The original point about the state of the team is correct. The off season beginning with the trade of next years 1st round pick has been a disaster. The fact is that Hurney has failed to address the QB situation and the WR/TE situation. He has failed to sign anyone servicable at returning punts and our lack of depth is showing on special teams. The o-line is solid but without any subs and the d-line is playing a bunch of subs.

Over the past 5 years the Panthers are 2nd among NFC teams in wins, so I favor keeping Fox, but because of the state of the team and its makeup, I favor kicking Hurney.

I think the problem most are begining to see is there doesnt appear to be a way out of this current situation. With massive issues at multiple coaching positions, player positions, players age, player disire the future appears bleak.

I really really like Fox, hardly ever agree with his scheme but I believe he is a good coach. The true lack is in players to play this god awful scheme. Its easy to play with pep in his younger years atleast effort was there (see him following mcnabb down and not catching him this year as opposed to coming accross the field to catch plummer at endzone in o5?) Best dt in league at time Jenkins, above avearage end rucker and dt buck. WIth a great cover mlb morgan.

Just appears to be so many holes with limited funds/draft picks too get yourself out of this hole. Sad sad state of affairs.

I agree with OP on most everything. The drafting is debatable but we need a change at the helm. Fox and Hurney cannot produce a consistently competitive team. That is their main problem and will be their down fall.

As for QB talent, who knows what we have because we cannot base it on Fox and Hurney's evaluation of QB talent which is just plain nonexistent overall. I'm beginning to wonder if Matt Moore may not be as bad as Fox and his cosches think he is just on that fact alone. How can we judge is talent really? Why is he still here after all? What is going on with this team?

    • Bryce put it in a spot only his guy could get it only for David Moore to drop it. T_T Tremble and Horn both struggled yesterday and that killed me since they're two of my favourite players. Tommy knows he has to come down with this one. Folks were understandably saying that JT would've caught that had he not gotten hurt a few plays earlier. The more I look at this play, the more I think that Bryce made the right decision throwing it out the back of the endzone. He could have tried to laser it in to Thielen, but that safety is lurking awfully close inside. Insuring the field goal here after a 44sec drive to end the half was the right move.
    • Except Bryce was the main reason we were in it
    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
