That feeling...

Honestly, I wouldn't burn that bridge.

Tell him exactly what you told us.

My work is finished, and is always on time.  You have never had a problem with me in the past, until I didn't/couldn't work your crazy hours.  Thanks for the opportunity to work here, but I refuse to work for someone who's only mode of communication is to yell at those "under" him, and to overwork me just to overwork me.

Consider this my two weeks notice, and please let me know if there is anything that you need from me before I leave.

That's about how I would go about it, and go straight to HR and let them know what's going on, and why you are leaving. Don't mention the new job part.  Nothing will change with him if you yell and scream, laugh in his face, etc...at least make it better for your current/former coworkers when you leave.

Yeah burning bridges is a bad idea. Don't care what kind of boss he is. Word could get to your new company and hurt.

Now if he does start ripping you a new one inform him of your 2 weeks notice and then educate him on why you are leaving.

Actually,  I would just record the conversation and act as professional as possible. It's always good to keep a little something in your back pocket in case things get ugly later. I'm not sure if NC is a 2 party consent state on recording so you might have to look that up.

Our meeting was bad this AM...  I got bitched at and decided not give him my resignation letter until 1 hour later.  When I did... He was devastated.  I actually felt terrible. He apologized and said he never meant to push me this far.

He thinks I'd never leave because of perks I have in my position...  Thing is I don't care about these perks...  The most important thing for me is life/work balance and right now it's all work.  I knew I got the job so I start going home on time instead of working 10-12 hour shifts and my boss is fuming.  He sent me an email, telling me he's concerned with my work ethics (btw, all my work is done).  He scheduled a meeting on the day when I was planning on giving him 2 weeks notice.  He thinks he will yell at me and I will start working 12 hours a day again...  Not this time, homie.

I can't stand people like your boss. Nobody should ever be defined by what they do for a living. There's just so much more to life.

Had the apology come prior to you giving notice it would have been meaningful. He is devastated because he has to replace a good employee and your exit interview with HR might not burn bridges but could be unpleasant for him.

Dont feel sorry for him.
