Carolina Panthers OTAs Week Two Notes and Photos

Two things that made me say wow.... Butler having the fastest first step on Funchess being a big time improvement.

Not too worried about the DB's just yet. Its very early and we should expect them to have these kinds of growing pains.

Excellent write up as usual. My expectations for KB are just to have him "back." They should bring him along as slowly as possible.

To say Wilks is in the ear of these young men daily is an understatement.

I think it's safe to say that Wilks is feeling more pressure than any Panthers' coach.

I am not convinced Robert McClain is the day 1 starter for the Panthers. He does well against larger, slower receivers. But he struggles against anyone with speed.

Might be the #1 reason he was available for pick up last season. Nobody wants a slow CB.

Brandon Wegher also had more snaps today compared to last week. In my opinion, he is the most dangerous back on the roster out of the backfield

I'm hoping he prompts a lot of 'who IS that guy?' questions this season.

  • The Player of the day was Devin Funchess, who looked every bit as good as Kelvin Benjamin today. Funchess may quietly be the most imporoved player on the field. Keep an eye on this, he could turn heads sooner rather than later.
  • Brandon Wegher also had more snaps today compared to last week. In my opinion, he is the most dangerous back on the roster out of the backfield. He turns around and heads up field much quicker than any other back on the roster.

All my blood has left my head and went ummmmmm......elsewhere

  • WR Devin Funchess had a big day, going up to snag a couple of high throws from Newton. An analogy for Funchess right now: He looks like Benjamin did during the spring of 2014.

If Hill shows enough to make this team I will undoubtedly anoint him the next Randy Moss and assume he will have 2,000 yards receiving and 16 TDs. Just want to go ahead and get that out of the way. With his speed and size, knowing he would be, at best, our 4th option, makes me reallyyyyy intrigued by him showing even the slightest progress.

    • I'd only find a problem if that video was current or a recent question was asked about film watching in the NFL and his answer was " Nah, braaH ".  Quiet honestly if a player doesn't watch film in during the off hours, that's not a problem to me. The fact is modern NFL team spend hours each working day in with their position coaches going over hours and hours of film. When the players union got rid of contact and pads, it was replaced by workouts/lifting and hours of film study. A normal NFL day is around 8-10 depending on many factors, like health status. They spent dang near 6 hours in a room watching film and going over techniques, mistakes, and game plans etc.  Personally Id rather hit one another, but Im old school and have no place among the youth mindset... Balance is too far over.....
    • Oh 100%, it's hard to play that position without being it a little bit these days.  But there is a difference in the type of diva who thinks they're the best and having swagger/confidence and the type of diva that is all about themselves and not the team first. Players don't turn down NIL money, it's near unheard of.  So for a player to flat out tell boosters that he has enough NIL money coming in and they should use it to keep other players from transferring so we could put a better team on the field, it just says so much about his character. And if you think a player who does THAT, is then going to have an attitude problem because he isn't a film junkie who loves to study and thus will end up hurting the team's ability to win, then you're just fooling yourself because he's not the guy you want. I've said it too many times... don't want to draft him, totally fine by me.  But use legitimate and real reasons for not wanting him and/or just preferring someone else over him. This video isn't that, and if you're using it as a reason to not want him, then you can't say I'm the one with an agenda when talking about T-Mac, because then you do too, just the polar opposite.
    • Pssssssshhhh Guess what??    IT STILL IS.
