Boston taking nothing for granted this year

Tre Boston obviously wasn't ready last year, but you couldn't tell him that.

Just the fact that he came into last year's OTAs believing that the free safety spot was his was indicative of a mindset that lacked maturity and professional refinement.  You hear great pros---so many times---expressing how hey don't take their position for granted.  There is always someone gunning for your spot on the totem pole, and even outstanding players go about their business very cognizant of that fact, and it's reflected in their play on the field.  

If David Newton's article is any indication, Boston says that he is ready to take his play to the next level. Whether he can do it remains to be seen, but at least we know that he won't be taking anything for granted. And that's a good foundation.

I hope he pans out...but a nice fluff piece isn't helping my faith in the position. Hopefully he cuts out the dumb penalties and grows up a little, because he could be a decent player behind our front 7.

FWIW, he's only committed two penalties in his NFL career.  He does need to grow up some, but most young guys do.  Sounds like he has the right mindset now, so maybe he's taken that step.  He's fine athletically, we just have to see how smart he is now, regarding the game itself.

Damn, no clue it was that low so I stand corrected big time. And that's probably including the Super Bowl "penalty" that he was called for on punt coverage.

Boston reminds me of a young Godfrey, but not in a bad way. Godfrey just never grew out of making dumb rookie mistakes. Hopefully Boston will.

It is.  Matter of fact, his two career penalties were both committed in the Super Bowl game.  A blindside block on a punt return, and an unsportsmanlike penalty after a pass play.

Very true, and similar to where the fallacy that CAP has a fumbling problem comes from.  His only fumble came in the playoffs, against the Seahawks.

Boston reminds me of Norman in some ways. Athletic and smart but wasn't working hard enough in the film room or on technique for him to show it on game day. He has certainly shown flashes, so I have high hopes for the kid.
