Does anyone know of places in north carolina or the southeastern usa that could visually double as Vietnam?

those areas look decent. i only need one or two jungle spots, and none of them are really expansive, so i can use a pretty small area. the muddy river one will be a little more particular.

the hardest by far will be finding a location i can use to double as a small rice farming hamlet. it's gonna be nearly impossible to do anything with rice paddies, but if i can fabricate some convincing bamboo and PVC huts i should be able to approximate it using a site like this:

the trick will be finding something passably close nearby, since this is in central florida and would result in some serious logistical expenses

The Vietnam scenes of Forrest Gump were shot on what is now the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, SC. Consultant for the film Dale Dye, said the South Carolina terrain was the closest to Vietnam he’d ever seen in a movie.

That being said, a day trip to Beaufort, SC and Hunting Island may provide everything you need. I bet locals down there could point you in the right direction. Many folks in Beaufort were there during the filming and have insights you probably won't find online.

I doubt they have any palm trees but they have redone all the rice fields here and it may actually provide areas for some of your other scenes as well.  I am not sure how open the owners are to filming though - the guy that owns it is a gazillionaire.

also if anyone has hookups with army-navy surplus outlets hmu, i'm gonna be in the market for a shitload of gear in the next couple months... roughly 30 sets of vietnam-era army BDUs and helmet covers mostly, plus harnesses, pouches, and canteens.

and M60 bandoleers but that's probably a long shot.

Check with some Vietnam reenactment units. Could save you a lot.

Cliven Bundy could hook you up. Bundy Ranch has both a Facebook page and an old school blogspot.
