What happened to Netflix?

One word: competition.

They controlled the market when they first came out, but now there's Hulu and Amazon Prime plus other networks with streaming services such as HBO and Starz.

Then you have the problem that I'm running into now.  I've watched everything I was interested in.

Now that other services exist, they're trying to change things up again by creating Netflix originals.  While this isn't necessarily a bad thing and they have created some good original shows, I think they are over doing it.  I wonder how much going in this new direction has hurt them in terms of what Arsen is asking?

There are no good movies to watch and none of my tv shows are on there (like Alaska State Troopers, Life Below Zero, The  Deadliest Catch and etc).  They used to have these shows but they pulled them... Even walking dead is gone.  Aside from HGTV and BBC 20 year old documentaries they showed us back in high school, there are literally slim pickings.

Yeah, like someone said, the market has changed.   Netflix was once the only show in town, so they got good streaming deals with those cable stations and movie studios.  Now you have Hulu and Amazon paying a premium to try to catch up to Netflix.  Then you have the networks with their OWN streaming networks or in the future.  HBO, Showtime, Starz all have their own and I know CBS is going to their own, etc.

So Netflix probably realized making original programming may be cheaper or better in the long run.   Also worth noting, unlike the outdated rating system cable uses, Netflix has straight up accurate numbers on what people are actually watching.   They know where to invest their money.   They know what to cut and what to focus on.

People are starting to get more invested in shows, especially binge watching.   Movies are now made more for overseas (esp. Asia) since going to the movies is still a relatively new experience for a lot of them.

Am I missing something?

Arrow, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, etc.....much of what I care about is still there.  Maybe Netflix has just allowed us to consume good television faster than they can make it?

They are trying hard to keep up though lol.   Now rumors of 3 more Marvel shows coming.  That's like a 3rd of the year with a new Marvel show each month.

Netflix's new shows hardly fail either, most of panned out for them.

I mean maybe they are just dropping things that not enough people watch?

The Marvel shows have great ratings from what I've read.  We do have to remember how cheap Netflix is for what you get though.  You can watch Americas Test Kitchen and Good Eats and learn how to cook, watch some real estate shows and learn how to remodel and flip houses, Marvel shows just to waste time, Arrested Development reruns for a laugh, or House of Cards for a chilling look at how terrible some people can be......

Still a bargain IMO.

Yeah, that's what I mean, they have clear numbers on what is being watched.  Every time someone starts a program, it's logged, and how long it's watched.

I remember a few months about Netflix released data showing WHEN a person becomes hooked on a show.  It was like episode 3-4 or something, so they have WAY better numbers than regular cable/network has.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
